I think there is a book by a bloke called "Whitfield" That is supposed to be good. A simple copy of he OSG has all about testing of rings [during installation] and i think the order to test things in too?? [as in a completed installation]

Thanks for the reply much appreciated I will buy gn3 and try get my head around the results.
do please give the guys answers to questions asked, don't worry about getting it wrong, attempt an answer and you will get help. NB they guys tend to ask questions to make you think, it teaches a lot more than simply giving an answer. With several thousands of years worth of experince on here, they are trying to guide you and effectively train you remotely into the wonderful world of electrics

Can i just say that i am well impressed with the politeness shown here... This is how the forum SHOULD be conducted...

Well done all...

I have not mUch just got 3 years experience of installing but hardly any on fault finding so my understanding is limited. So how dangerous would the n-e fault be ifi had left it? As I had nipped the N on the back box when putting front back. I would like to hear the risk behind it plz? Since this has happened I have been trying to educate myself much more.

 Would r1 + r2 find a N-E fault then?

Matey - you outlined 2 faults..... my suggestion was to help you find one of the faults....... unless you locate both of the faults your job isn't complete......

Hi Adammyman,

You asked, "Would r1 + r2 find a N-E fault then?"

Err, no, i was just pointing out that r1 is different to R1 etc

You need to get yourself the osg and read up on initial verification and then do it all yourself on a "mock up" of various types of circuits...

The only way you are going to find a N/E fault is by doing an IR test..

What i cannot understand is you say you have three years experiance of installing, but none at fault finding. The problem with this is, that everything you need to do to find the faults in the ring, is exactly the same as the initial verification tests when you install the ring in the first place

Ok, so tell us two things.. Pretend you have installed TWO circuits, one a ring, and one a radial. Describe the tests you would do on BOTH and why they differ.. [think polarity here]
