Hi all,

Has anyone ever been robbed on paypal by the buyer claiming the stuff never came?? I am just worried as you hear loads of stories about this, and i have loads of bits i have for sale on a motorbike forum, and am getting a bit worried now.

Anyone had any experience of this?

john...

That's wrong paddler.  In the event of an "item not as described" claim, the buyer is supposed to return the item by an on line trackable postage service. Only when the tracking shows the item has been delivered back, will the refund be given.

Ebay are trying to "improve" their image so they will almost always find in favour of a buyer.  BUT if in your case the returned item was not the wsame one you sent out, then you should appeal the case decision and prove with photographs that a tatty old one was returned instead.

There are crooks in all walks of life unfortunately.

but in the case of ebay ALWAYS sent items by a trackable means so you can prove they were delivered.

YES

That's why I refuse to use it.!

and,,,,,,, it was bike stuff,!!!!

A lot of stuff to same buyer, as soon as eBay refunded the first dispute I closed the bank account that was linked,

I still get emails about it, about 4 years on,!!!!

They are robbing barstewards,!!!!

Using PayPal not Ebay although the two are linked is like using anything on line, you must takes precautions if it involves valuable items.

As Dave said always send signed for and package well.

I've never had a problem and have used it since it started.

There will always be a few bad pennies, but you get them in everything not just PayPal or Ebay.

send everything tracked.

my son's business is selling stuff on ebay/amazon/google ads/own website.

he could writ a book on the scams that some buyers come up with.

little known fact.......ebay/paypal will only accept an official courier or Royal Mail receipt as proof of delivery. they will not accept a receipt from the buyer/seller

just warning

Are they as bad as that shed Kerch ?
both B & Q and Ebay have appalling customer service, after care and the honoring of warranties

i think on reflection B & Q are far worse......did I ever tell you about their Fu.................................    ..   ..   .    .   .    ards!

They did appeal - It was sent back (an empty box just for tracking purposes)

They lost there money - ebay found in favour of buyer and PP refunded

It took over 3 months as my friend was scammed and went through all the appeal process and sent email after email - but to no avail
Then they should have gone to the police.  Returning an empty box is FRAUD and a criminal offence.

The other thing they stitch you the buyer up for (or did unless changed) is if you buy something for say £300 and the courier is £50 and it then costs you another £50 to send it back as its not as described, when you get your refund you only get £300 and are £100 out of pocket - This is an example only but did happen to me around 3 years back, i did phone the seller and tell him a few home truths and that if i ever visited Leeds i would pay him and his thieving shop a visit - The goods were counterfeit in case your interested
Wrong again

ebay will refund the original postage cost as well.

How do I know this.

I currently have a case gone to appeal with ebay.

I sold an item clearly described as "faulty for spares or repair" and the buyer opened a case because it was "faulty" (some people are dumb b******s)

I disputed the claim saying it was clearly described as faulty.

ebay found in the buyers favour, and when the tracking information showed it had been returned they refunded the original purchase price and the original postage price.

So the buyer is out of pocket by whatever it cost him to return it.  I am out of pocket by what it cost me to post it in the first place. the only winners are parcelforce.

I have disputed the claim on the basis it was described as faulty so this is clearly a case of the buyer bought the wrong item. I'm hoping to get my original postage cost back so I am not out of pocket, but I won't hold my breath.

I think we all agree ebay can be a bad place to sell things.

you don't get this trouble selling stuff on gumtree.

My Son descibes some of his customers as "cheese shouters"....these are the type of people who argue with cheese at ASDA

Example

this parasol i bought off you, the 3.8 m one

Yes sir

It is too big

What size did you want?

2m

Yes but you ordered a 3.8m version,

I know, but you do not stock the 2m version so i bought the 3.8 and thought it would do. It is MUCH bigger than the 2m ones that you do not sell!

TW@

Just saying

So far, everything i have sent out i have sent by fully tracked parcelforce. The last lot to california..

I make the buyer click on the "gift to family and friends" thing as apparently, once they have done that, there is not much they can do...

I know they could do a visa chargeback, but i think paypal do not get involved with this. I think once i have sold the stuff though, my paypal is NOT linked to a bank account, but a credit card, would it be ok to just "unlink" it, or would i have to block the card and change it to thwart paypal??

NO, they have your details, they can take what they want from your account/credit card ,

then you have to go through the courts to recoup it.

similar to you giving your direct debit details to a company, unlike a standing order that you can cancel, once they have your card details they can charge what they want to it.

Not Ebay but i was being scammed by an airline agent, when i approached my bank they said the only sure way  to stop it was to report the card stolen so its canceled & nothing can be taken via that number. I did this and luckily i had another card/account i could use as the original one was off limits for about a week till the new card arrived.

On a slightly different note i was surprised if you cancelled a cheque or whole book, say as lost or stolen after 1 year it can be used again

In regard to ebay / pay pal.

I sold some clothes.

Buyer opened a case stating "wrong size" and wanted refund.

I had taken a picture when I listed items, in the picture you could clearly see the size lable.

I pointed this out to buyer

Never heard any more

My point being take as many pictures as you can and upload them when listing items. Any problems the pictures are there for all to see. (Oh and get tracking number when posting)

I got all my photos, [of what is left anyway!] on Photobucket, so they cannot say they have not seen them!! I did links from the forum, so they could see the bits, they cannot say they had not seen the photos, as otherwise, they would not know what bits i had!! I did not do a list you see, just albums they could browse through..

Just sent £330 worth to san diego, [already got the money] but the buyer clicked on the ""send money to family and friends", so that will be ok, even if i did not send the bits, i would still be ok, unless he paid with a visa card.. Anyway, i have already paid for the postage £74!!!!! as it was a fully tracked one, just got to drop the bits off at the parcelforce place tomorrow!
