As pointed out above if Sky Box and Freeview is to go in each room use a 60cm Dish minimum when using multi-switch, use a Quattro LNB (2 X Vertical and 2 X Horizontal feeds),run specialist Quattro cable (4 core Co-Axe colour coded)+ 1 for Freeview and add 1 for spare, or run 6 separate Co-axes from multi-switch location to dish and freeview aerial.

The multi-switch can be as big as you lke 8,16,32 or bigger, remember Sky+ will require 2 outlets on multiswitch, Freeview can have amp adjacent to multi-switch, so run 3 X Co-Axe from Multi-switch/Amp location to each room, we also run one or two Cat5 FTP cables also.

In each room we fit 4 gang euro plate with 2 x F Connector (Sat), 1 X Co-Axe socket (Freeview) and 1 x Data point, if we are installing double data the we go 3gang and 2gang for data.

Dont forget your earthing!

Lots of Class II items all connected by coax, touch voltages on metal parts could rise to significant levels, not fatal but any shock could be uncomfortable (Like a large static shock)

For Sat you cant use isolating coax points as Sat needs the route back for filter voltages.

Should be <5 ohms to MET from each coax outlet.

Good point, multi-switch will have earthing bars on all sides, don't forget to use them, I've seen so many where they have not earthed it.

what have you got?1 box split to every room, or a box in each room?
1 box in every room steps

this advice is greatly appreciated

hi gents

just a quick question

roughly how much would the going rate be to install a multiswitch sat distribution into 10 rooms

im on a day rated ........ just be nice to know in case the customer starts picking

cheers

sorry rugby, but thats like me asking how much should I charge to wire this guys extension.

nobody but you has any idea whatsoever what is involved in it,

big bungalow, easy

5 storey mansion with laminate throughout , not so easy.

Hi Steps

this job is the open heart surgery type,

customer living there whilst two large extensions are on the go.

they want all the cabling hidden with in the structure

All runs require floors lifting and in places access panels cut into the eaves (coax pulled in using mice)

property = converted bungalow into dormer rooms above and now being extended again (old ceiling joists still in place with new joists layed )

The usual nightmare install

Talking of nightmare, we installed 2 X Sat100 Co-Axe through fabric of building, run of 20M from double F type socket to dish.

Guy turns up with Sky box and tells client he's getting signal down one cable but not the other.

We go there today and do low ohms continuity end to end 1.6 ohms on bad cable and 1.4 on good, core to screen >1999 ohms.

Cable route straight forward 10M inside in between joist and 10M outside, I cannot believe cable is damaged unless faulty on purchase.

It's all flushed new plaster decor and carpets FFS.

Oh dear rugby,

Price it like you really dont want it, unless of course you have nothing else on for the next week.

Jobs like that I try and price on how much could I make doing something much less hassle.

ie, how much money would you be able to make if that wasnt taking up your time.
