Morning all

Finally returned to finish a job, started early April!

I have a confusion with the EIC Blushing

In Test Results section I've put down "distribution circuit" for swa running from house to shed and filled in appropriate columns, then listed circuits and put results for those.

In section J (particulars of installation at the origin). When referring to "Main Switch of Circuit Breaker", is it asking about the CU within the shed or the one back at the dwelling?

In "Installation Type", do I tick alteration as well as addition???

Also - am I obliged to upgrade bonding to water as it's only 6mm? System is TN-S. I upgraded the gas as it was hanging off  .

Hi, Nat,

I'd leave the 6mm unless client wants to pay you to do it.

Addition applies to what you have done.

Main switch or RCD means whatever switches the whole supply off , so the one in the house. If it asks for a BS or EN number put 60947-3, to save taking it out to look.

particulars of origin is always service head/first point of entry
Incorrect statement. :(

It is asking for the "Main Switch or Circuit Breaker" at the origin of a particular installation..

A single suppliers cut out fuse and service head and meter can supply MORE THAN ONE installation,

with possibly more than one earthing system arrangement?

and so all of the INDIVIDUAL installation characteristics which that includes.

On your average domestic installation the service head is the origin..

but ALSO many domestic situations can incorporate MORE than one installation!

You seem to be confusing an "installation" as being one incoming distributors supply. :|

particulars or origin is always origin, which would be incoming supply. but there may be more than one main switch
Yes incoming supply to that installation, which is what I just said.. "It is asking for the "Main Switch or Circuit Breaker" at the origin of a particular installation.." which is not necessarily what you said the "service head/first point of entry"

Just to clarify for others reading:-

As always try re-checking Part 2 definitions pages 20 - 31 of Big red.

best place to start with whats-what and what does this mean...

Origin of the installation: pg27

The position at which electrical energy is delivered to an electrical installation.
e.g. The supply into a CU or DB most often at suppliers cut out... BUT not always!Electrical installation: pg23

An assembly of associated electrical equipment having co-ordinated characteristics to fulfil specific purpose.
e.g. a CU or DB with a main switch and a group of MCBs/RCBO's etc.. to supply final circuits.Distribution circuit: pg23

A circuit supplying a distribution board or switchgear.A distribution circuit may also connect the origin of an installation to an outlying building or separate installation, when it is sometime called a sub-main.
e.g. one installation can be supplying another installation via a sub-main.so..

On the certificates, which relate to what Nat was asking we put down the Particulars of the installation, which include such items as

Main switch or RCD means whatever switches the whole supply off , so the one in the house. If it asks for a BS or EN number put 60947-3, to save taking it out to look.

What's the difference between 60947-3 and 60439? I know BRB says 60439 is "Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear".
