if you google, "snow socks" these are the supposed to be the last word....very popular in scandanavia i hear!

Has just started hoofing it down with snow here in west Berks & the air temp has plummeted to -3 according to the thermometer outside the door.

mmmmmakes me think about a subaru....

i have never driven a 4wd car, do they really, really work? ....if it is snowing and icy i would imagine having 4 wheels spinning instead of the normal 2, if you know what i mean:)

i have an old jaguar with huge tyres, i think they are even worse than little thin tyres like a previous posters van....maybe it is my imagination or it maybe trying to get the 300 horse power down:x
Had a Ford Ranger 4wd with normal road tyres last year for the snow, it would do full throttle standard starts up hills with only slight wheelspin, BUT it weighs close to 2 tons, and therefore does not want to stop again once its going!

I'm a firm believer that we should be forced to have correct winter tyres on our cars over the winter season.

yes because tires suited to snow work really well in our usual rainy conditions....

whatever, winter is very broad term and whats good for rain isnt nessasarilly good for snow and ice
Yes rain tyres won't be great in snow, but M+S in rain will be perfectly fine.

Fact is they are OEM supplied on many vehicles, they know better than us.

i have a skoda octavia 4x4 and when i ahve driven it in snow and ice its been awesome and thats not even a real 4x4!

In most cases I would say its better, 4wd only when you need it, 2wd economy when you don't.

The 1.8T engine ain't too bad either is it ;)

Gutted. Had to abandon my van and walk 7 miles home last night. The wife got stuck and left the car 1/2 mile from the house only to discover this morning that some ****** has driven into it making it un-driveable and causing about 2 grands worth of damage.
