Sparking Storage Heater

Hi

Just turned down the charge on the storage heater and this massive spark came out, bigger than the normal little spark when turning it off, is this normal.

its a rented property and don't know if its normal enough to call the landlord.

Your advice would be most welcome.

It's normal to see a spark when the switch contacts open or close, particularly if it's in a darkened room.

I had the lights on this time, and it just seemed larger then normal :-(

Can be a sign that the contacts are pitted and worn, with a big flash/spark.

How old is the unit and what make is it.

I have no idea how old it is as a rented property

There is no name on it but it looks like the Dimplex ones.

You may see a large spark or a small spark when the contact

opens;  it depends exactly when in the current cycle the contact

opens.  Large if it is at the peak, small if it is closer to zero.

As Steve says, age is a factor.
