Bought a steam cleaner from USA without checking power requirement. It needs 120v 1500w. Is there anything l can do to use this in UK

yes, you will need a transformer to reduce voltage to 110v

theres a couple of things on ebay. looks like universal adaptors. not really wanting one of those the size of car battery. would they be of any use

universal adapters do not change the voltage. you need one of those the size of a car battery, or its life span will be measured in seconds

Absolutely not.... You WILL need one of them "car battery size things" as you put it. You will need one of AT LEAST 2.2 KVA as you will find they have 2 ratings, on for continuous use, and one for intermittant use..

Problem is, your transformer will cost you more than the steam cleaner did......

Try searching for a 2nd hand  builder's transformer . size as above .  Might be cheaper .

Something like this (try and avoid the old metal cased ones 'cos they're 'kin heavy) unless you can get it for nowt. Make sure the lead is in good condition especially where it enters the trannie:

Says 3.3kVA but almost certain it'll only be rated at 1.6kVA for continuous use but should be fine. (They have a little reset button on the side if they do get too warm).

no worries. its going in the skip once l strip it for parts for a uk model
