I'm not sure that there is a problem feeding into an existing consumer unit as long as its not going onto the load side of any RCD, straight onto the main switch controlled busbar by its own dedicated MCB is IMHO fine and electrically not much different to splitting the tails. Indeed wylex even make some special PV ready consumer units which have a way set aside for the PV and a MID approved meter inside, along with a double pole isolator (whether that is separate or a double pole MCB excapes me right now).

I've had countless discussions/arguments with electricians our place has sent out to install the AC circuit and mount the inverter for me to come and connect the DC and test and commision for not following my instructions and keeping the circuit off the RCD
