SW,

if I send you some beer tokens can you post the cert to me?

Im just thinking on the fuel cost, you know. ;)

its either that or I try and bluff it out til the 19th I suppose. :|

Steps,

Don't know there will be a cert mate, will know more in the a.m.!

I don't believe that there is a formal requirement for a course, but some want it so the end client is filling a niche in the market.

I hope it all goes well for you Sidewinder. I think the only problem you would have is the quality of your students. I am sure the course material will be a walk in the park for someone of your caliber. No doubt you will let us know how it goes.

Doc H.

AH,

well thats would be good to know,

the way I had heard some people going on I was actually starting to think this was going to be a compulsory thing TBH,

more money, :(

I cant even work to AMD1 yet as work are refusing to buy a green book til Dec at earliest, 'its not compulsory yet' . WTF,?

Doc,

The students will be all practising and hopefully fully competent electrical contractors, electricians, technicians and electrical engineers as it is a private training enterprise and, they will be paying to be there!!!

Thanks all for the support.

Hi, I think it is a great idea!!! You will be a brilliant teacher, that much is obvious. I think i will do 2382 soon. I know it is only a first, very basic qualification, but hey, it is a start, but i wish i had someone of your, genius is not too strong a word, to point me in the right direction....Your students do not realise how lucky they are....

Best of luck to you...I think you will really enjoy it too..

john..

Well 12.5 hrs door to door trained from 9-15:30 with a short lunch break and took almost an hour of questions after!

Not too shattered, got in just around 19:30 ish, went OK, was quite nervous 1st thing as I got there later than I intended due to traffic but it was about 90 miles each way!

Not my course so I was delivering to someone else's slides for the first time but not too many issues.

Attendees did not seem to complain, but I've not checked the feedback forms yet!!!

5 years ago I was running up and down ladders, today, I need steroid injections in my knees just to keep walking. It can hit you quicker than you would ever imagine. If you can diversify into something requiring less physical wear and tear, grab it with both hands. I spent 18 months as a full time lecturer but packed it in to go back on the job as it paid a lot more. I don't regret it, it was a big difference. Just wish I hadn't pi**ed it all up the wall.

Cheers, Chris

Thanks Chris,

Having had a "leg" issue recently it is something that has been in the back of my mind.

I was not sure if I would take to it, but, I did.

Thanks all for the moral support I have had.

One thing that does concern me, though is that if I stop doing the work completely then I would loose my credibility to train!

Just IMHO that's all, to be able to teach it you should be able to & really still doing "it"...

When I had to scale down, I thought I would lose most of my customers but I've found that if you tell someone that you can fit them in Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning, they are happy enough, in fact they are grateful that you can get round to them so soon. If you have a happy customer base then you will keep them.

Cheers, Chris

Chrishaworth makes an important point , as years back I went to my mate's firm as supervisor/estimator ,as my knees were taking a hammering , with kneeling , ladders ,steps etc.

We went bust after 14 years (not due to my estimating!!!) , nobody wants you at that age so I became Evans Electric and started hammering my knees again for the last 18 years.

I suppose the point I'm making is that is good to have another string to your bow , like Sideswiper. Maximum respect . I couldn't teach myself, not qualified enough and TBH the technical stuff bores me to distraction, its just a means to an end to me , do a quick calc, OK that'll do me , we need a 35mm SWA from A to B , lets get stuck in .

I like the challenge of planning a job or scheme , choose the correct gear etc and turn out a decent job. When estimating you could see a job through from winning it to final completion . Sometimes you could get a new guy or a Subby trying to bullshine you , thinking you're a pen pusher , they'd be shocked when the boss and I would turn up with our tools for that final push if we were running behind .

Think I'm going Off Topic here , I'll shut up.
