Hi All, got a silly question to ask but it is bugging me so here goes, At present when I chase a wall I use pvc capping, to install the capping I drill through capping edge and into wall about 15mm then use either a capping nail or clout nail, dilemma is time it takes and when the capping edge splits just wondered what alternatives there is, I have tried oval conduit and personnally cannot get on with it so was wondering if pvc mini trunking would work (25mm wide 8mm deep stuff) thought would be to place trunking in chased out wall take the lid off drill base and screw base to wall place cables inside then clip lid back on. just wondered if anyone can see a major flaw in this idea?

i can see trunking taking up too much depth, and a lot of extra work to chase deep enough for it to be flush

have you tried clipping instead of capping?

I use sticks like sh*t adhesive, one of the many gripfill type adhesives, to stick the plastic capping in place.

A LOT quicker and easier than nails, and it grabs well enough straight away to stay in place.

Just brush off any crumbling mortar first.

trunking in wall would end up being pretty expensive! Clout nails are defo best way to put capping up.

never thought of glueing it dave.

sometimes i just pin wires back with a few clips then bang a couple of blops of browning in

I use 20mm round conduit on rewires for 2 x 2.5 easier to get cables in than oval conduit, for more cables I use 25mm conduit. only use capping on new jobs that are being plastered.

I use tie wrap bases screwed into the wall - then tie wrap the cables. If I'm filling I PVA the lot and use a stiff plasterboard adhesive mix to just below the surface - and when dry finish with one fill. Seems to do the job.

I just clip the cable to walls. I only use capping if a large area is being wet plastered (and then only if the plasterer wants me to).If you have trouble putting the clip nails into crumbly mortar then use Towers pin plugs in the bricks (5mm hole)

I go with that aswell mate, I hate capping! A right PITA!

When you are putting the capping onto a brick surface you will find you can usually get the nails into the courses of mortar between the bricks rather than trying to hit into the bricks themself.

You can also drill 6mm hole for a rawplug at the edge of the capping and hammer the nail in straight until you get to the final 5 mm where you just hammer the nail onto the capping to hold it firm, once you get the knack its a timesaver as opposed to putting trunking in or any other alternative.

Thanks, I will give the trunking a miss, I will give the suggestions a go just find capping a pain so may even clip direct or try conduit again. Many thanks
