Well thank god for that, I was a bit bleary eyed when I read the title, "we will not raise NI", for one horrible moment  I thought part of Ireland had started to sink, then again I thought wow I never knew it was built by Harland and Wolff! Think about it, lol
She was floating when she left Belfast,! :)

sawa rpogramme about the Titanic, apparently they left Southhampton with a fire in 1 of the coal bunkers which ultimately weakened the bulkhead and hence she sank

I wonder about some of these ships !   Who remembers the car ferry to Holland  ,  The  Herald of Free Enterprise......it left harbour with the giant bow doors open  , turned turtle .     How can you possibly set sail without someone saying  " Are the bow doors shut?"

IIRC they were put under pressure from their owners to speed up their turnaround times  .

Did they prove that Titanic was trying reach New York in record time ?

Protestant engineering at its best. It's a pity the Catholics put a curse on it. Isn't that right @steptoe 😝

The Herald of Free Enterprise sank 6 March 1987, killing 195 people. Twenty years and five days ago.

RIP……..

I've been on ferries that have set off with the bow/stern doors open, at the time I was more worried about salt spray on my car.

My parents were frantic with worry over the Herald incident...I was stationed in Germany at the time & had phoned home that i was coming home on leave..........but a chance of skiing came up so as a young 18-19 year old I did the right thing & jumped on the wagon for much snow beer & birds so wasn't on the ferry when it went over. Officer of the day kicked me out of bed to ring home as uk police had been enquiring with the regiment if i was on the ferry.

The Herald was still there the following weeks when  i did go home for a weekend............just a big orange underside on show with loads of debris still in the water

I would have happily paid the extra.... we are not getting any younger and the costs of social care are rising rather rapidly.

Adding this to NI is far fairer than just to Council Tax bills....

Again, its the system they have created that is courgetteed.

Can you imagine what we'll pay when we are old and sick if some people are paying over £2000 pounds a week to keep their loved ones alive in a care home what will it be like in 20 years time?

Voluntary euthanasia for me thanks as its becoming more about enslaving the next generations with debt. I do not want this for my kids nor do I want them to see me staring at the ceiling , plugged into loads of machines covered in my own excrement! NO THANK YOU!

And giving the councils money... don't make me laugh they will just spend it on some grand project that fails or whittle it away on some social inclusion for the elderly   scheme. MUPPETS!

AGHHHHHHHHHHH!

I heard many "experts"  talking through their plug holes on this .    Some bloke on R5  saying  the self employed have "got away with it for too long "  "paying far less than an employed man ...and now their state pension is included they should pay the full amount "

Well that was ALL our stamp was for ...state pension .... we didn't get anything else ...no  benefits ...no unemployment benefit  ....  we were getting away with SOD ALL mate !!!   Some expert he was. !!

no sick pay, no holiday pay etc etc.

as for the Titanic, they were short of coal so had to shovel all the coal that was on fire into the boilers, this generated lots of steam which means they were 'steaming' fast to use it, and then they hit the iceberg.
