Hi everyone,

So after reading an argument on here and learning what one of the unnamed members does, it got me to thinking...

What kind of job do the great people of this forum have?

I am an Electrician who works for a boatyard refitting RNLI Severn class lifeboats, I also do the yard electrical work so industrial/commercial is my main areas.

And you?.....

Just an ordinary self employed electrician who does anything that pays money.

Mostly domestic, some commercial and light industrial. A lot of maintenance and repair work for landlords, a few new builds, the occasional rewire etc.

We specialise in railway electrical works. 1-2 domestic jobs a year. A lot of industrial also.

I'm a self employed sparks .  I've gone from heavy industry , overhead cranes , Maintenance , breakdowns, industrial plant installations ,    light industry , MOD stuff, Hospitals , schools , site forman , supervisor , estimating etc .    Now mostly domestic & new build  , 3 days a week sometimes four  if my knees will take it .

Wow! You have a real scope of work there.

Out of interest what kind of work do you find most enjoyable?

However, Essex, I have no need to elaborate what I do.

Today was an electrical fault on a plate rolls, then hydraulic repairs on a CNC lathe.

Tomorrow is hydraulic on the CNC, then back to the plate rolls.

Over the weekend is prep for renal works next week, including making the filter systems.

If, I can fit it in next week it will be a repair on a saw for one of Her Majesties hotels, if not the week after, then I will complete all of the PUWER98/BS4163 assessments on site for their workshop machinery.

Then I will be in the office doing the reporting for about a week on this.

Just because you feel the need to "big up" what you do, I don't.

In fact I had a phone call in the van the day before yesterday, from a prominent figure in the "industry" and I had another forum member with me.

His face was a picture when the name of the caller came up on the radio display and the way the call was answered, by me "Hi ****" the response was "Hi Paul".

He wanted to discuss some stuff with me.

It was not appropriate to discuss this apart from in private.

...and look what happened to,that!
Some job that was , bleedin' Noah supposed to be helping me ...too busy getting the animals in 2 X 2 .

Well it never sank Kerch , just stranded on Mount Ararat ,  Port & starboard   lights still working.

Now that iceberg avoidance & detection system I installed on the Titanic ...I was never happy with that TBH........   ruddy wiring schematic by Sidewinder Anti Iceberg Systems & control panels subbed out to  Canoey's grandfather .............and that sub- contractor I employed in Belfast ...what were they called now ...   Steppingtons ?.... Stepplows ??......   Ah!  Steptoe & son  ..........too busy chatting up some rich family's daughter ...last time I saw him he was leaning over the prow with her ..pretending to fly .

I’m retired, end of. What I do now as a hobby is my concern.

Previously:

Production management.

Machining.

Procurement.

Events organiser.

Photographer.

R&D.

The odd bit of that electrickery stuff when I could find the time.

Gee I wished I was a bonny lad in your days Sir deke, sounds so much fun, at least better than today.

Mind I did read something about the anti iceberg system being installed on the wrong ship :C could be a myth?
