I hate working in old lofts buried 10 feet deep in insulation and cluttered with householders junk.

I get job satisfaction walking away from a house that could have killed the occupants knowing what I have done as probably saved their lives.

Just wondered what gives job satisfaction and what can't you stand.

Hate the feeling at the end of the day that you haven't achived a great deal on the job in hand.

Like the letters/notes that come in the post with the payment cheques, thanking me for a job well done.

I like going to a job well prepared and everything going to plan resulting in a good quality job which is appreciated by the customer. I hate getting messed about ending up going to a job that someone else has started and cant be bothered finishing!

Hate doing cu changes always seem to get the problem ones much prefer doing new work as you know its done right and should hopefully be no problems on second fix.

I like fault finding and putting things right and seeing the relief on the persons face that all is well again . Especially when you have righted one of their wrongs . I'm not too keen working in lofts nowadays where you have to contend with loft insulation and wasps nests :)

I love doing CUs!

I do enjoy a nice CU.....

You can set yourself down in one place without the worry of thinking.. oh will I need to get some boards up in the other room to feed this cable though!

and it is nice to leave the job at the end of the day with a nice new CU on the wall where there previously was a rats nest of old Wylex boxes and henleys! :_|

Hate:- hmmmmm.....

Laminate floor is probably quite high up the list! :_| :_| :_|

Enjoy:-

A really good problem/challenge to get your teeth into such as;

  • Track down a tricky fault.
  • Bit of a non-standard or complex circuit arrangement.
  • Awkward position accessory to get cable to, can I still get the cable there concealed.
  • A full multi service rewire, e.g. including power, TV, Phones, Computer, Alarms etc... so At the end of the job you can walk away knowing every bit of cable has been designed installed & tested by yourself! :x :DGuinness

Going to a house to quote for some work and suggesting to the customer how about doing this and that etc and them saying can you do that ??

especially lighting ccts

HATE

Doing a itemised quote for a customer as requested and then not here here anything,,,,,follow up call only to find they have shown it to another sparky asking if they can better that working from my quote....

Love - Money

Hate - Cutomers

no, only joking.... i really enjoy working hard and looking back at the improved result .

I seem to have more hates than loves , but I have been at it for a long time . I do generally enjoy the job .

A definite "love" would be after working outside in the freezing cold all day, to start the van up and feel the heater warming you up.

Definite "Hates" would be :- ( in no particular order)

Chipboard 8x4 sheet flooring.

Builders.

The stupid new cable core colours.

Part P .

Solid strand 2.5 T/E.

Shopfitting jobs ( all slapdash, panic, and rush)

Shopfitters.

Loft insulation.

The 17th Edition.

Best inovations in the trade :-

Plastic conduit

SDS drills

Battery drills

Tywraps
