I've been working on this commercial refurb for a while now and I've learned about different wiring systems and installing containment. This is what an apprentice would usually cover over 6yrs. You cannot beat experience on the tools and being taught by experienced people. This industry is always changing so you are learning something new all the time no matter how experienced you are.I wish that there was more apprenticeship schemes run in this country. I wish that I'd done one.

Apprenticships are as rare as rocking horse poo today, so I don't think any less of guys who are genuinely taking the only routes available . I get a couple of letters a month from guys of varying experience looking for work. I can't help , my phone stopped ringing a year ago. Some guys willing to work for nothing to gain experience, its not right.

Canoey , I forgot quite a few things along with sweeping up TBH . :C

You are fully qualified when the powers that be stop changing the rules and stop bringing out new regulations that need new qualifications to prove you are competent at understanding the new rule that they have just thought of......

:|

Until that time we are all partially qualified, awaiting the next amendment!

:coffee

I can only assume from talking to "one" at work today that you are fully qualified when your work it THAT GOOD you don't have to test it. The conversation went like this;

Him (to me): "You're too anal with all that testing stuff. I don't bother cos I know my work is spot on". Polarity testing (I meant the dead polarity testing)came up and his comment was "I always use a Martindale". Bless him, I don't usually wish Direct Contact on anybody but.......... :pray

I'd love to see one of his certificates.

Does he make up the figures? or calculate (from the length of cable) what they should be? or does he not bother with all that anal paperwork nonsense?
