Which Multi - Testers Best And Why

Hey guys, my fluke multi - tester has started making some really strange noises and giving some even stranger readings so i thing its time to invest in a new one.

Any preferences to a reliable make / model and why ?

Any good deals around at the moment the you know?

or just the very basic domestic tests?

Have been using fluke for past 6 years and always got on well apart from the need to zero out leads every time used , this was my first tester so basically grown with it , have read alot of negative reviews about fluke so as its time to re-invest in a new tester i am open to suggestions .

majority of work is domestic , but starting to get more commercial / light industrial so that needs to figure into the equation , but majority domestic so preference for that.

Newer Flukes have better leads. I like Flukes and I am on my second 1652. The newer ones do phase rotation so that is one less meter if you do three phase. I won't have Meggers after the bad experience with the CM500 I have. Flukes everyday for me.

I dont use those functions a lot, but when I need them they are there, [not a fluke BTW]

Fluke is, IMHO, a far superior meter than megger, and Ive used a LOT of meters in the past,

just look at how they dont need to push or advertise them via the 5ww courses......

Id go for a new fluke if I needed to.

I have a Fluke Multi but have some single test instruments from MM that are Megger - And to be honest i really like the Megger stuff - Its very good

So if you had to make the choice would you sacrifice the fluke or the megger , having used both , which one wins and why ?

Well jumping in before Canoe gives his answer, I have a Fluke 1653b MFT, a set of Robin separates, and a Megger LTW 425.

Personally I would only sacrifice the Robin Resistance meter & RCD tester.

The 1653 is multi function, the robin loop meter has D-Lock & puts a full 20+A down the line for a loop test, the Megger has a higher resolution, and can more accurately measure high fault currents.

Plus then there is the CA stakeless earth tester, which is a different ball game, that I can't, yet, get my head around!!!

I don't have competitors i have also runs :innocent

The above i suspect is a list created for their own benefit so I'm not sure it is very scientific.

I would recommend different testers for different users based on their needs, i would prefer to discuss this with you so please PM me your number and i would be happy to give you a call to do just that.
