The missus friend just had her onsuite shower room done the builder got a spark to reconnect the shower and some other bits.

The price he gave is as follows,

Shower

Perhaps he realised what a pig it is to get 10mm in a pullswitch and allowed extra time for that. Personally I would not discuss prices without looking at a job.

If the builder has hired the spark you dont what he has added to the bill. Tell the wifes friend could have better off running job by you first.

I did say that when i found out about it last week and had a look at it when i picked the missus up from there.

It's interesting that people are often reluctant to pay a trademan a reasonable amount of cash for some skilled work but are accepting of the fact that they sometimes have to pay Accountants/Solicitors etc shed loads of money at times for doing nothing.

Just a thought:)

I must say that it sounds quite reasonable to me too.

Compare that to a price that a "Gas Engineer" (Or whatever they're called now) would charge to supply and fit one that was worked via gas and water etc?

Well the socket in the airing cuboard was for a pump that feeds the shower in the bathroom the fused spur that feeds the boiler is still there.

The one thing though i couldn't see is where he got the supply from for the socket as the T&E just went straight up to the loft and he hadn't came off the spur that was in there.

immersion 'should' have its own dedicated supply, thats maybe why he won't have come of it. But with the cable going upwards better check its not been tapped off the lighting.

nothing wrong with having a socket on the lighting circuit. just make sure circuit is designed for expected load of socket, and the board is marked

Can't you give a price for the electrics would be good job to get.No the work has got to be done independant from myself and not a relative either.

Thank you for your kind words, wish everyday that could be true! Cheers anyway.

Do I understand that the council are paying for (all/or part) of this work? Why do they say you can't put in a formal competitive quote? If you can do the work cheaper and still comply with all current regs etc surely that would be saving everyone some money?

But getting paid to do work on your own house...

I'm afraid that doesn't seem right to me.

Sorry to hear about your wife Robin.
