    A Zs observation for all

Why are you thinking that Matty? The way I see it, (i'm assuming your using the next two tables along, ie 41.5?) the Zs as quoted in those tables is effectively the PFC/PSCC? (and not a per individual circuit figure) ---------- Post Auto-Merged at 16:59 ---------- Previous post was made at...

    A Zs observation for all

Hi guys. I had my annual assessment renewal for Elecsa today (passed of course :D ), and something came up as an observation that I didn't previously know, so thought I would pass it on. When you are filling out your test sheets, there is a column for Max Zs for that circuit. For example...

Potterton Netaheat Mk 2F White Rodgers valve

Thank you all for your replies. Am so far drawing a blank on sourcing the part so it might be a no go anyway. Thanks again.

Potterton Netaheat Mk 2F White Rodgers valve

Thanks batty. No, it's my boiler at my house, house is currently up for sale, so not really wishing to have to fork out for a new boiler. I suppose what I'm asking, is that is it a similar task to, say, replacing a starter motor, an alternator, or a water pump, on a car? I.E. a like for like...

Potterton Netaheat Mk 2F White Rodgers valve

Hi, re: the thread title, I have fault finded the problem to this gas valve, assuming I can locate one of these, can I have some considered opinions please, whether I (member of part p scheme and therefore deemed electrically competent) could replace this. Not really interested in the in's and...

Which scheme is the better one?

Steptoe's answer hit's the spot. The rub is whether you see that the named scheme that you choose to join is pertaining to whether you are to get any work from being in that scheme, as opposed to another one. If the idea is just to notify your work from a Part P point of view, then they are a...

    PIR

Regarding the R1 + R2 question, ie 'what's the tick for', it's basically because only a continuity test is required, not a measurement that needs recording.

    charges for testing

Did you just do 'the fixes' or did you also energise the installation?

    cu change eic or pir

Although PC's link is good, and is what any self respecting sparkie would do, the basics of the above ask still amount to the answer 'you can do nothing if you like'. As it (replace a cu) is notifiable, as is new circuits, then you could just pay the building notice fee and hand the...

Quoting for a job from plans

Every job is different TS, first thing for me is to work out whether i'm just pricing it so the builder has a comparison against his regular sparks or whether there's a realistic chance that I might get the job. Secondly i've started charging now for quotes. I'll still give free ball park...

"Electrical Installation Condition Report" to replace the Periodic Inspection Report

I've also had a quick scan, it appears to me that one can decide to not install an rcd

    Elecsa Visit finally arrives!

Congrats, i'm on my 2nd year now, I had a different guy 2nd time, he asked different questions but I didn't think it was as intense as the initial join up scrutiny. It probably helped (2nd time) that I had a nice job just round the corner to show him, new kitchen ring, new CU & tails...

max number of lights on a circuit, including double wall mounted lights

I don't think they do the 10 lights max rule anymore. 559.6.1.1 & 314 basically cover it now. Design currents and de-rating factors etc I suppose have done away for the need for such a finite rule. Probably still good practice though.

    Dimmer switches

I might be teaching to suck eggs and all that, but i'd put the switch on a simple one gang open/close first to check out the lights are actually working/bulbs lamps blown or not

    The fixed lug rule.

I've just re-read it, I was interpreting 'defective cable' to mean an earth cable that has a voltage on it due to fault conditions.

    The fixed lug rule.

Isn't that the same as saying that every backbox with a earth fly lead could potentially suffer the same fate? And it that case every PIR you do that has socket earth fly leads must have a fail? ]:)

    Consumer Unit - Change

Damien, don't be too upset with Evans, I also thought along the same lines as him, IMO an approved 'competent person' shouldn't have to ask basic stuff like where to buy triangular meter keys. I see by the length of time you've been here there shouldn't be a wind up angle to this, but it...

    Hello to our New Members...

Hi I'm mark, have been here for a few years now, just pop in now and again, I work as a builder (extensions to houses) mainly (the whole project not just the spark bit), but i'm a qualified spark and have done many years too many years house bashing to care for it anymore :D I came across...

    CSCS cards

It totally confirmed for me why I don't do site work anymore. Apart from hard hats (which you aren't allowed to take off to wipe sweat away unless you are in a no hard hat area :_| ) and yes you had to wear them even if you were in a house with carpets and curtains, hi-vis & boots, other...

    country flags

Well, maybe 'a version of the St. George' is offensive and i didn't mean it to be, but anyone looking in on the link you kindly provide will see what I mean with the white background and red cross on it. It's often displayed at N. Ireland football international team matches, and it's certainly...
