    downlighters

I've recently fitted over 30 of the Click flameguard ones, they come with their own connector system, really impressed, easy to wire and fit. I prefer to loop at the switch these days, doesn't make my arms ache as much as standing on steps making them off!

    notifable work or not -help

Yes, same for me :( don't forget re-calibration costs as well :_| Worse bit for me is most of my work (legit & notified extensions) is already paid for notification wise, but just not worth the hassle of arguing with BI's the question of competance any longer. The big plus is the free...

    Spur of Ring

That's also how I was taught. I understand the 'downstream' demand tho', although I think uniform 2.5's until the actual fuse is better practice and unlikely to raise eyebrows should inspections arise for some reason or another.

The real world situation is that it's very unlikely that anyone of a jobsworth persuasion will get involved, so just fit the isolator and be done with it IMO

cscs / ecs cards how long they last?

So pray tell me the point of 'induction' when coming to a new site for the first time? (if one has H & S as part of the cscs thingy why induction is the Q)

Would this be a minor works

We could even get into a 60's wired house with no cpc if you want :)

cscs / ecs cards how long they last?

As a side issue guys, (sorry to highjack) but if someone (like me) was part p registered in a competent person scheme (like elecsa) and had the elecsa membership card, would I need a cscs card still if i wanted to go on site and work?

    Arrg.. Building Control...

"waive the fee"? Really? As in do the job and notify via a building notice but don't attach a cheque, or write in "fee waived" as per agreement with BC head officer? Now, that's the way forward ;)

    notifable work or not -help

Hmmm, yes, in a kitchen, so notifiable... but if it's more than three metres away from the sink, then it's not notifiable. You have to juggle and interpret the guidance a bit to grasp the idea behind it all. http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/uploads/br/BR_PDF_ADP_2006.pdf Page 7 is the bit to...

    Arrg.. Building Control...

What's all this reduced fee business? The building control department are able to charge one of 5 listed fees, as per the law. http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si1998/19983129.htm Basically that's a full plans app inc the inspection part (2 charges then in this instance), building notice fee (this...

    Arrg.. Building Control...

This isn't a reference to a regulation? Or the law? ADP06 is just guidance.

    Elecsa

One of the reasons that Niceic are specified is because they offer a warranty scheme that the others don't. I'm not talking about the gov't required offer of a warranty before anyone jumps down my neck :)

    Re: Bathroom pull cords

I'm not sure how the typical UK earthing arrangment of a light switch will stop the ingress of water from a wet hand scenario Batty?

    Red 4 core and earth.

I'm not much of a reg head safedepth, but I think Chapter 54, if you can be bothered to wade through it, will give you the reg that 'bans' single cpc's to two circuits. Although I do seem to remember doing a big seperate one in my learning years ?:| So I've confused myself now! :_| I...

    Re: Bathroom pull cords

Thank you for your useful and non argumentative (in a confrontational way) replies guys. As I said, i sometimes fail to see the logic in the 'banning' of the switch, when other countries allow it to be sited within. Clearly there are 'regular' sized bathrooms where the situation doesn't apply...

    Re: Bathroom pull cords

Jeez... :_| The likelyhood of water ingressing within a switch to the point that there is a touch voltage 'floating' across the surface versus all those bonded steel sinks still in existence with trailing sockets non rcd'd...? :( :coat

    Re: Bathroom pull cords

I'm not quite sure where I said that? :_| headbang Perhaps you thought I was advocating having an intermediate switch within the shower cubicle in case you was in the shower for a long time and it got dark and you needed the lights on? :| The text of a forum sometimes lets a statement...

Would this be a minor works

I'll also agree with Noz, cables in the ceiling aren't within the 50 mm rule, so I can't see the neccessity for rcd protection.

    Red 4 core and earth.

Each circuit should have it's own cpc. So one earth for two circuits is a no.
