    modern home wiring

I will be moving home in the not too distant future and will probably want to re-wire the place as the existing electrical installation is far from adequate for todays needs. It may not all happen at once but i was thinking of running in the cables to various locations in order to utilise them...

    one of this weeks jobs

I`m no expert but i do not see any crimp lugs on your main earth bond terminations and the twin and earth to the outside light may raise a few eyebrows.

    frost/pipe stat connection

Thanks CJS i knew about the permanent live part. I was referring to the core coming back from the pipe stat to the wiring centre. I re-read my first post and it probably sounded as though i was asking if you connected it in with the permanent live going to the boiler. What i meant was LR going...

    frost/pipe stat connection

Hi all, can someone tell me where you connect the return from a pipe stat, into a y plan wiring centre, does it go in with the white of the mid position valve or can it go directly in with the boiler live? Y plan virgin so just trying to get a head start before i get there. Thank`s in advance...

    cooker circuit

It probably won`t be increased for some time yet as it is a new cooker. Thank`s for the speedy response. The main concern that i had was if the cooker was in use and they decided to use a kettle at the same time as there is a soccket outlet on the ccu

    cooker circuit

After calculating for diversity it equates to 17 amps. This is a cooker circuit, wired in 6mm

    replacing gas fire/back boiler

When i ripped mine out there was a metal plate where the flue liner passed through to meet the connection on the fire/back boiler. On top of this plate there was also a brick built liner inside of the chimney breast. Quite a few courses as i remember.

    y plan clarity

Yeah the boiler has connections for permanent live, S/L and L/P Just found some info on the net that says that the timed pump over run comes from the permanent live through the PCB so i guess that answers my question about seperating them in the wiring centre

    y plan clarity

Hi all, trying to get up to speed on central heating wiring centre`s. Looking at a SALUS diagram it shows terminals 12-boiler live, 13-pump live and 14-call from the cylinder stat all linked together in the wiring centre. My question is: if it is a y plan fully pumped system with a pump not...

    cheap CU wasn't too bad

Same opinion as lurch regarding the tail copper. The unused conductors should also be terminated to earth and not just taped up

How busy are people at the moment?

Been un-employed now for over 3 months. No one recruiting in my area

    Responsible or not

I was intending to leave the cables terminated above the ceiling

    Responsible or not

You are bang on the money tom1. I did not want to add anything to existing circuits in response to spinlondon, i wanted to strip out the accessory such as the socket outlets and lights in the area concerned, terminate the cables and then start afresh with a new install. Removing the cables...

    Responsible or not

Sort of defeats the object of the new circuit then i think. Could be a very messy can of worms

    Responsible or not

I understand, so if i remove a socket outlet and terminate the cable safely i can just list this on the certificate. Would i have to test the circuit that i removed the socket outlet from.
