Admin,

could you check to see if theres an error on answer sheet for Paper 2 Q.14 the answer says

A=11.4a when should it be B=10.32a:?

2500/230=10.86

10.86x0.95=10.32a

answer B=10.32a?

or

2500/230x0.95=11.44a?

have exam next week so want to be sure of what im doing,

cheers

PF is last. and you will find if you have a scientific calc, typing 2500/230x0.95 = 10.32

cheers andy, apache said the same thing,i have scientific calc but tutor told us to use fraction button to save time, doing it that way comes out at 11.4X(

my only concern is that scaddans book shows a technique that brings it out at 11.4a as does admins answer sheet so im worried what will the exam have the answer as if it does come up!

having just look at the original question, i think the answer is 11.44A

14. A single-phase circuit dissipates 2.5 kW of power and operates at a power factor of 0.95. The current flowing in the circuit will be: a) 11.4 A B) 10.32 A c) 10.8 A d) 10.4 A

2500 / 230 = 10.86.

10.86/ 0.95 = 11.44.

(didnt read the question last time, so didnt notice formula was wrong!)

thanks for double checking Andy,I am tending to sway towards 11.4 as the way I've been taught leads me to that plus yourself, scaddan and admins answer sheet come up with 11.4, but Apache put up a good reason for it being 10.32 in one of the other posts on front page so I have doubt in my mind now! have you got any ideas on that mutual inductance question i posted? i have looked on wikpedia but havent had any joy with it so far.

When a semi conductor diode is connected across an a.c. supply having a peak value of 5 V, the peak inverse voltage across the diode is:

a) 2.5 V B) 3.5 V c) 7.07 V d) 10 V

Admin,on answer sheet question above (29 on paper one) says answer is c=7.07v but it is D=10v.

i have just been over the question with another member and it is twice the voltage for PIV and x 0.707 for RMS so answer should be D mate

I have had a go at answering these does anyone know if they are correct?Q1. A Hall measures 13m x 15m with a light loss factor of 0.65 and utilisation factor of 0.75. It is to be luminated to a level of 500 lux, the total lumen output will be:

a) 400

B) 69642

c)97500

d)200000 ExA/UFxLL

Q2. If a single loop of wir forms the armature of a single d.c generator, the emf, generated in one of the coil is given by the formula:

a) e = 2Φ60/Np

B) e = 2N/60pΦ

c) e = 2ΦND/60? We have been taught that its E=2pΦNZ/60c

d) e = 2ND/60Φ

Q3. A series a.c circuit has a resistance of 10, inductive reactance 5 and a capacitive reactance 2. The impedance of the combination is:

a) 0.427

B) 4.27

c) 8.3

d) 10.44

Q4. When a circuit having a resistance & inductance is connected to an a.c supply, a current of 10A flows. If the in phase component of current is 6A, the power factor of the circuit is:

a) 0.5

B) 0.6 I guessed its' 10/6 is this correct?

c) 0.8

d) 0.9

Q5. When a single semi-conductor diode is connected across an a.c supply having a peak value of 10V, the peak inverse voltage (PIV) across the diode is:

Does anyone know formula for this?

(I have lost the options for this one - sorry).

Q6. A pure inductor of reactance 50 is connected across a single-phase 230V supply. The power dissipated in the circuit will be:

a) 1058w

B) 105.8w

c) 10.58w

d) 0w
a pure inductor does not dissipate power and so the answer is zero

just sat mine today

got to say it is heavy on motors

but got a dizzy 86.5% over the 2 components

so i.m happy

the test papers were really helpful, As there were some very similar questions on the gola exam

Well Done Mac.

Test papers from here you mean?

cheers admin,i got a distinction mate! Applaud Smiley and you were right a lot of these questions came up including the peak inverse voltage one!

I also got credits on 302 + 303 exams so I have now completed 2330 L3!

Well done Al. Proud of ya.

Proud of ya all. :)

A1, Rimind me again which formulaes on the Formulaes' page did I need to re-do?

Thank You.

There was a problem with a formula on the website - I thought it was you that pointed it out to me and comfirmed by msb2003?

Just finished my 2330 level 2, will be starting level 3 in September. These will keep me entertained throughout the summer. Thanks very much!

Power= work / time

been busy, not visited for a few days. Sorry I didn't reply earlier.

I'll slap my own wrist :D
