So I spend a couple of hours in my garage trying to find out why the van electrics cut out totally the other day just as I pulled out into the service gully .

Battery  is OK  so disconnect and clean all connections , check earth connections to body and engine .  Ignition comes on ,engine starts , leave it running  as I do some other stuff , well if its going to cut again it would have done it by now.

Off to the wholesalers , as I wait in the middle of a busy 3 lane road where the traffic never seems to stop , a gap appears , pull forward and the engine cuts dead in front of two double deckers and an Eddie Stoppard.

So hazards on , leap out and start pushing .........followed by a fecking nobhead in a Beamer blowing the horn .!!!!

I gave him the full version of building site invective with a few racist remarks thrown in for good measure I'm afraid.  I hope his German built posing machine breaks down in the M6 fast lane .

Then Thunderbird 2 decides to start and i Drive home .

I'm hoping I'v now found the problem in a decrepit looking crimp lug on what looks like a loop feed from the starter motor + .  Got an idea it feeds everything except... parking lights - Horn  & Hazards .

Glad it went wrong Wednesday as I was in  Wales day before ,  you don't want to be wandering around there in the dark with no vehicle  pleading  " Don't eat me .. my brother,s the local vicar, look you , cariad...is'nt it it  " :C

But you can rest smug in the knowledge, my brother, that when it snows in a couple of weeks time the Beemer tosspot will probably have to use the bus.

Up here it is 4WD capital of the flicking north. When we get a bit of snow the place is gridlocked as none of the Mothers can get their cars up a slope.........get an Overfinch Range Rover in one inch of snow up against the kerb and they are shafted

Oh ****** !!!  Thought I'd solved the cutting out problem when I replaced a very dodgey crimp lug on the starter , feed loops off to the ignition .

Drove it out today but it cut dead at the end of our service gully .  After 10 mins power retuterned and I returned it to the Batcave  .

Not a clue now , have to get it to the garage tomorrow.   Someone said its the oxygen sensor on the exhaust but I don't think vehicles this old have such wonders of technology.

Everything dead except for  ...parking lights (offside)  ...horn and hazard flashers.

I don't have a wiring diagram so have no idea what else is in the circuit .  As far as I could follow the circuit , a 16mm (ish) + goes from Batt to starter motor.       Looped off that is a 10mm which I think feeds all the stuff via the ignition key switch .

Have you checked the out put of the alternator? If its not charging properly it can actually decharge the batt and boom your dead....

maybe a faulty relay?

mate of mine had a similar problem but he opposite, the relay was sticking on, so you had to either stall the truck, or pull the relay out to stop it
