Hi looking for some advice. Got a letter saturday morning for a assessment visit on wedsnesday so contacted them immediately as not much notice and I'm very busy and cant re arrange work. So the lady on the phone informed me as I had to cancel I have to pay 349 as a cancellation fee. Personally I think they are wrong for a letter dated the 4th which only turned up on saturday and expecting me to drop everything. What would you do in this situation?

you never agreed a mutualy convenient time n date in the first place so there is nothing to cancel.  If they say no, tell them you want to see the engineer 8.00 tomorrow and see if HE can make it.

I find this very odd, normally the first letter or email is over a month in advance. I had my email last Monday for the 22nd April.

It does say if you do not respond within 14 days we will accept you are happy with the appontmemt date. I also received a letter today saying confirmation of appointment date.

So did you receive email/letter or maybe lost on post, if this is the case then thats what you need to enforce.

However if you received letter and now your extra busy then they will accept cancellation for some situations but being busy is not one of them.

What does the wording on your letter actually say...

As others have said I always get two letters, the first is at least a month ahead of the proposed date..

and the letter says something like " if the proposed date is inconvenient let us know at least 14days prior.. blah blah.."

the the second letter always says something like...

" we wrote recently with proposed date, this is a reminder .. blah.. blah... make sure you have everything ready for the assessment to go smoothly blah.. blah.."

The second letter is still 14 days before the date giving time to cancel and rearrange without additional fees being due...

Is yours saying it is a reminder or just a proposed first date...

Have you double checked you haven't miss read the month and it is NEXT month not THIS month...???

:innocent

Hi and thanks for all advice, no never recieved a letter earlier than this and the letter does not say its a reminder. Even the postal stamp dates shows friday which is why I never received it till saturday. Have checked all emails and no email from them either. Will phone tomorrow and see how I get on. Thanks for all advice

I find this odd, as above there are two letters sent to the QS. The first one allows you 14 days to except the date chosen or to make another arrangement. The second is a reminder usually around 7 to ten days before.

This definitely does not say reminder and the lady on the phone stated she can not see one was sent out before this date but is confused herself as to why letter is dated the 4th of march but post stamped the 14th. But shes not in charge of sending them out so couldnt help more than that.

Amazing really ..........  a membership based company that would cease to exist without members ,  yet , as with the other DI scams , decide they will "FINE" their members as if they were a local authority  , Magistrate's Court  or The Electric Police.

What happens if assessor is taken ill and you are left sitting there , could be losing a days pay  and then another when at the new appointment.

My take would be to speak to them, and explain if they don't re schedule it for free, then this will be your LAST year with them.

That was my thoughts Dave  but he may be NICEIC  Full Scope and many Commercial / industrial customer's insurers demand membership  and there is no other choice .

Domestic Installer , at least theres a choice of 4 - 5 others ..............( at the moment)

Well spoke to them today and after being passed from person to person they admitted it was first letter sent out as they realised they had actually made a mistake as my assessment should of been done by end of december and as it wasnt they were trying to get me in quick. Anyway they are now re scheduling and not charging me as they said they would yesterday. Thanks for all advice

Now send them your invoice for wasted time and phone calls
+1

I think 2 hours labour should be a reasonable charge for your time spent chasing doing their work for them. Or ask for a £100 discount off your fees for the stress caused by their incompetence.
