In the office again.
Had a call & email from these people - apparently providing domestic insurance cover to 300,000 properties.

They want a spark to cover South Wales (apparently the last one retired............... :C )

One off charge to be added to their list - not annual.

Bacs payments made weekly.

Looks legit to me, I`ve had a look at the companies house profile, which appears ok........

Any thoughts?

HomeFix 24/7

They sound familiar M8 , I'm not sure but I think theres a scheme through Severn Trent Water (Midlands Area water) which uses Homefix, basically a one number call for home emergencies.

One off payment doesn't sound like a rip off.

You're not in Wales are you ? Oh yes ...of course you are ..sorry.. the flag threw me for a moment.

You need to what sort of charges you can make.

Yes, I am; and the situation just got a little more interesting.

In their email, they said they`d had 12 emergency calls in this area, in the last week. Sounds good, doesn`t it?

But I just went to their website, found a map of all their tradesmen - they have a sparky about 20 miles away (one of only FOUR in the UK, looks like).

So I `phoned this spark; he thought from my accent I was scottish (WTF??? :slap ), and said that he joined in November, was promised the same target area as they`ve asked me to cover (exclusively) ; and hasn`t had a single call since. So I just fired off an email to the company, asking for an explanation.......

We shall see what develops.

Charges: they asked my hourly rates ( std / out of hours etc.) , travel costs, etc. ; so they already know what they`ll be billed for.

And the idea that they pay weekly is damn good - so long as they provide work ;)

Homefix 24/7 looking to recruit 100 new staff - Business News - News - nebusiness.co.uk

Expanding business...

Homefix 24/7 is part of the Mainframe Group of companies - Century Business Centre, Teesway, Portrack Lane, Stockton, TS18 2RS
Mainframe:-

Our History | Mainframe Group

Its origins lie in Stockport in 1983. The company were sole traders until 2007. The growth in the Company, especially over the last ten years, has been tremendous, allowing it to expand its customer base from Stockport to Manchester, Leeds, York, Teesside and Newcastle.
Obviously growing and expanding...

But have to beware of too rapid expansion and cash flow issues....

Apparently according to the radio we are officially back in reccesion...

Construction trades particularly!!

May be bona fidie..

But IMHO you would need to ensure prompt payments are in the terms of any agreements.

:coffee

Seeing as there are three "stalwarts" typing away in the middle of the morning - I think we can safely say that WE are receeding ....!!!

Used to be the odd "lone wolf" having a quiet day - now the forum seems to be a meeting spot for bored sparks, waiting for the `phone to ring........

Thanks mate - THEY have the prompt payment bit in their T&Cs as well, so that side of it appears to be ok - but taking on trades and not giving them leads seems a bit strange....

My feelings on working through third parties are well known on here , its not sounding so good now TBH.

I don't like the spectre of the phone call from the nice warm office , sending muggins here out in the storm , using skills, tools ,instruments that they can't and then chasing the payment from them.

I've not worked for 2 weeks , I have one job running ,waiting for the plasterer to finish. Had to pass on a kitchen to my M8 as I was not feeling well last week, now the Missus is not well .

Hence my presence on here. Part Peeingdown with rain here.

And Radio 5 has just reported that the multi millionaire , Donald Trump is objecting to wind farms being built by his golf course.

I guess that schoolboy humour never quite leaves us.

Hope the missus feels better soon mate.

Its part peeing down here, too - squally carp, and quite cool :(

Was supposed to have had work to do today..............................

but the customer is dangling their dangles and *****ing around - get on with it, ffs!

Bored stupid at the moment

Doesn't sound at all strange to me TBH, from their point of view it's a great business model.

Promise the earth, get loads of "one off payments" and then do nothing,,,,, kerching (for them)

Now if they did it for a 20% commission without an upfront fee then I would perhaps be interested

Sorry, not this Kerching!....I always look at these 'schemes' with a touch of NaCl [well a shovel full actually], just seems to be like 'buying work that may well never be delivered'.....BUT work is work and if you are not exactly 'pulling your stump out' at present then it could be a good call. BUT a promised payment is not the same as a received payment in my opinion....sorry for the 'buts' but... :coat

Was nice to win against those types....again....

People buy people.... ;) ; )
