Customer requires standard BT master socket face plate changing to match other accessories. Anyone have a wiring configuration or diagram?

The new plate states its a master (has the large capacitor) but the original BT socket has an 'A' and 'B' terminal:C:C

Any ideas?

A & B are incoming terminals try incoming pair one way round and test all functions i.e. make call out and make call in to make sure ringer works.

If it does not ring with incoming call then reverse polarity of incoming pair.

I will not do this because if they have a fault on line it will cost them about

It may be best to try and keep the BT master if you can, could it be resited?

Then you will have the benefit of the break point between internal and external wiring.

I have had to move a BT socket once..

It was a new build and when I first fixed it I made a data/TV point (TV in.. TV out & BT) on a 2G grid face plate.. with telephone extensions going to 6 other rooms.

BT connected to the grid module no problem and it worked well for telephone, but when they tried to use it for broadband it just wouldn't work.. I replaced the module and it still wouldn't work so in the end I did what BT call a "simple shift" don't connect the incomming cable to the first socket, take it to the next one on the internal cable and then bring it back down to 2, 3 & 5

Another little bit of info is you can use a master socket anywhere just cut out the capacitors and resistors it then becomes a slave socket.

Mike.

Or even only connect 2&5.
