Just thought I would throw this in here to see if anyone has an idea.

Car is a 2007 ford C Max with 1.6 TDCI - same engine in citroens, peugeots, fords and even volvos.

Its done 107K,

Today, on way back from holiday down south, I overtook 3 cars and then had to stop at lights. Pulled away and since then the car seems to have lost power, it revs, but theres no power and on hills it struggles and downshifts are needed to keep going. Felt like handbrake was on, however it freewheels fine so no issues with brakes binding. Also worth noting theres no excessive smoke or strange noises either.

I was thinking maybe turbo but there would be lots of smoke and funny noises surely?

Any ideas?

does the engine management light come on?

does it go into limp home mode?

could be the high pressure pump.

my van has a problem with the fuel pick up and when fuel gets low I cant rev it over 2500 under load otherwise the fuel management comes on and it goes into limp mode, but only after stopping and accelerating again.

Ive narrowed it down to either high pressure pump or turbo boost, but I can live with it, I just dont let the fuel get too low.

BTW, Citroen Relay 2.0 HDi

same engine design afaiaa

Hmmmm   I was thinking of the revving ........ but yes you get wierd things happening with engine managment troubles .

I yearn for the old HT coil and a set of points .......reset them with a Park Drive packet and you're away again.

It sounds exactly like what I had last week, turbo on its way out, advice given if you so much as see any black smoke out of back stop immediately as engine will draw oil through Turbo system and can cause total engine failure to the extent of a new engine.

Apparently it causes the engine to over rev.

Egr valve, but that normally puts the engine into limp home mode.. could be an air flow sensor....

Needs to be plugged in and see what faults are being reported.

had something similar on my van earlier this year and it was the accelerator cable had come off a mounting so was slack, possibly wont help you but thats all i got!

Thanks guys, theres no warning lights and no smoke, I think Nick may be onto something with the dump valve idea, perhaps its sticking. I can get the guys at work to plug it in maybe.
The thing is though is that the dump valve is controlled by a load of different sensors....although if they had failed then you'd normally get a dash indication and be in limp mode

Not even closely related. Found this out after swapping from a 1.6 berlingo to a 2.0 expert.

Sounds like electrical to me. An astra van that i had would do a similar thing without ant any warning lights and turned out to be the MAF sensor.

Never seen a sporadic turbo problem. Don't the y either spin or don't spin?

If waste gate was sticking open then sure you'd hear the woosh noise all the time.

Thanks Bulmer, I did think the turbo would either spin or not, or at least become noisy and oil would find its way into the inlet side and start smoking. Given that this happened soon after a full throttle opening it is possible that the dump valve stuck open? I'm guessing some of the boost is vented if its too much for a given situation?

Yes, they release boost pressure. Think they are controlled by a solenoid from the ECU so could of stuck open slightly causing low boost pressure

have a look at boost pipes may have a split and drawing air just a thought

as they are totally diffedrent how does that relate to a Relay?

as far as my mechanic is concerned a relay is the same as fitted to a lot of other types,

but, totally different to experts/scudos/etc, I had one of those previously, and a berlingo before that, so yes, i agree, totally different from either of those models.

The 2.0 in general, whichever model its fitted to is different. Its not even a cross flow  engine for starts.
