Just been going through some on-line deals...

What makes you choose the make of Consumer Unit that you fit for a client....???

Used to be a massive wylex fan but recently started to fit MK sentry units as electricfix had them on special offer.

One of our clients likes to buy his own fittings cheapest crap possible Chint consumer units bloody awful to install.

Hager... Consumer units and the sollysta range for fixtures and fittings...

Agree with the Chint comment, what a pile of poo....

Yep them Chint boards fall apart soon as you touch them, put the main earth in the bar and it popped out, I'm just waiting for the phone call when one burns up and they try to shift the blame onto me.

Hager for me every time. Europa boards are a big pile of poo as well.

Like the Hager board just ignore the insult of a spirit level. Use a lot of the Wylex boards which are ok just have to fix to a perfectly flat surface otherwise they tend to distort, then the din rail and breakers get all out of line and it takes some serious negotiation to get them in line to where they should be.

Hager, Hager and Hager even though a little expensive - ignore the spirit level ha ha, but best board by miles

I had the pleasure of fitting one of them Chint garage CUs, is it me or have they invented an entirely new philips screw size all of thier own? I must have a hundred screwdrivers of varying types and sizes, not one of them would fit lol

With the Chints when doing up the terminals on the switch disco it's always in my mind if the plastic will split or the screw head shear off !

I've had the same problem with the screws had to use my small CK modulo driver to get any grip on them.

One of the next jobs lined up for this client is terminating a 16mm SWA for a sub board in his workshop I've told him it has to be metal clad and a decent brand name. Bet any money he provides a plastic CU and expects me to use that.

I prefer Crabtree although they are expensive they make a great consumer unit. My second choice is hager, third would be mk, then Wylex.

Hager for me, design is very well thought out compared to the rest and I use these which no other brand has: Hager Incoming Tails Kit by Hager
I can see the point of that if the existing tails are just a little too short and you don't want to add a couple of Henley's and the seal fairy has not been to the meter so you can't change the tails. Otherwise to my mind it just introduces two more unnecessary connections that could give trouble at some point in the future.

Well most boards use the same design now , din rail mount MCBs and a bus rail that you cut to suit the split.

Yet some makers can still introduce annoying additions which are specially designed to wind us up.

I fitted one last month supplied by the customer from Screwfix , carp, some make I'd never heard of .

Crabtree Starbreaker is probably the easiest to fit and is quality but has a couple of drawbacks ,(a) It will only accept a Starbreaker device and (B) You are stuck with the split arrangement unless you carry spares ,otherwise its a trip to the supplier if it needs to be changed.

Hager is a quality product that I feel I can trust. (Made in France , a change from China)

Control Gear are cheap and appear to be the same as Square D , I,ve heard of no problems with them TBH.

I,ve gone back to Crabtree, Steeple, Wylex now as I can only assume Electrium have solved their quality control problems (I hope)

Most single phase boards I use are wylex. For three phase I prefer Merlin boards or very similar and made by the same company square D.
