Hi can anyone out there recomend any electric gate systems just first fixed a large dwelling house customer has decided she wants electric gates never fitted any before could do with a useful link I appreciate ther will be comms cables to the intercom and power supply to the gate motors. whats the loading on the motors etc.

thanks

Generally gates motors are low amperage well the ones I have done have been. So armoured cable can be quite small although I did on on a commercial job and that was 16mm but the drive was very long. Welcome to the forum by the way.

Hello and welcome :)

I can see the biggest issue could be with VD if a reasonable length from source.

You need to know the exact spec of the system before you lay a cable.

FAAC is my choice, hidden ground motors are nicer than rams
thats true camerabloke but they are also more suseptable to weatering quicker and filling with water. especially in areas where the water travel down the driveway towards the gates.

cheers guys Volts drop not an issue really as drive way only 10m from C U i believe my customer wants a system with intercom activated gate control and for this i will need to lay comms cable ie UG 5pair BT cable as well as SWA to supply motors?

ypu will need to lay comms as well but faac do 24 v motors so no need for armoured

There was a spate of publicised deaths and injuries caused by electric gates last year, mainly to children. At least 2 'responsible' people got custodial sentences (i think one was an installer and the other a designer).

If possible have a 3rd party draw detailed plans of the installation & check all the health and safety implications. One of the problems were the gaps around the hinges that met safety rules got smaller as the gates operated and body parts got crushed.

Thats alright slips if they lose a child they will just buy another one.

"came uk" who are manufacturers of gate automation kits do free training on a regular basis for those wanting to install their gear.

Probably best to get some proper training/advice before embarking on this just so that you understand all the different aspects of the job.

Have a look on their website www.cameuk.com

Hi, i've used this company several times.

http://www.theelectricgateshop.co.uk/index.asp

Never had to go back for any faulty stuff yet. Tech support is very helpfull. RCD spur usuall does the trick as most of the ones i have done have been quite close to the house. 5a fuse was sufficiant. Depends on size of rams you need. Used CAME on the last job, their equipement looked and felt more robust but i still prefer the electric gate shop stuff. When you buy a kit you normally only get one pair of safety photocells, so make sure you have enough for your needs. You can also get wireless coms between gate and house, just depends on ease of run and any obsticles that may interfere with signals. :^O

Chatting to a builder I do some jobs for today....

It would appear there is a probability I may be needing to quote for some electric gate control installation work...

Domestic driveways..

One is a pair of metal gates..

Dunno what the other is yet?

Will be needing the voice intercom bit as well

Dunno yet if any cameras needed..

Probably going over to the first site week commencing 24 Jan..

So just putting the feelers out to get some info before I go..

Any recommendations for good suppliers of gate control gear?
