fire rated downlights

Hi, all,

Just a quick question, if the downlights are fire rated then would i still require a fire hood to go over it, cause i've asked some sparkies and some say you should and some say they dont, so i just want to clear the air.

I was under the impression they were smoke hoods rather than fire hoods, and therefore serve a different purpose. But I could be wrong, I often am.

 
It depends what you mean by a hood a cover to protect them from insulation or an intrumescent fire hood which is a fire seal in itself, which was the old fashioned way of providing fire protection before fire rated downlights came in.
