I am looking to replace existing storage heater (dimplex) with new dimplex storage heater.

The 2 heaters are similar size / output (new heater is duo 400n) - there is a an existing economy 7 point and an existing 13 amp point close to the heater.

Am I permitted to fit the heater myelf or do I require an electrician?

I have an existing electrical certificate for the property.

if its a rental property you may require the landlords permission,

otherwise its a like for like replacement, so I see no reason you cant fit it yourself as long as you feel competent enough,

is it a brick wall?

these are real, REAL, heavy, and need good fixings,.

Yes .  There are no Electric Police ................yet !    Doing your own electric work is not like doing gas , where you can end up in prison at worst .

As far as I know any Tom, Richard or Harry  can do electrical work

Do you feel competent in doing it ?

Do you understand the fundamentals of electrical work ?

Do you understand the importance of earthing ?

Do you understand safe isolation ?

Do you know the importance of fixing the heater securely to the wall  to prevent it being pulled over.?

You obviously know that two supplies are required .

If the existing heater is VERY old , it may contain asbestos .

What you SHOULD do is contact the nearest Forumite ( if there is one)  & offer him the job .

However, doing your own gas work, in your own residence is fine, regardless, you don't need to be gas safe, but as in electrical work you do need to be competent.

You cannot however legally do gas work as a business without being gassafe.

Hi thanks sorry only just seen the replies - I used an electrician to fit even though I could have done it myself.

But for some reason, the heater works on daytime, the diagnostics seems fine but it did not charge up on economy 7 last night, no idea why not.

FYI - power at the wall but no idea why heater not charging.
