Tanking and new timbers due to dry rot, but they refitted the sane floor (note the rot in the right of pic) . The spacings between joists is 22".

They also trapped the lady and her dog upstairs by screeding the hall floor and telling her not to come down for 12 hours. So this was the floor next morning

I got called as they had blown the lighting and socket fuses trying to bury connector blocks in the render repairing cables they had damaged

Bet she's pleased with the value for money that she got!!

That's all they ever have to say... they weren't very good but at least I saved ten grand by not employing a proper builder, who cares If I get tingles off anything metal, the toilet flushes hot water and the fuse goes every time I put the washing machine on.

Yup, tin foil on bricks sitting on the subfloor so the whole floor was moving anyhow.

The squares in the screed are where the lady herself through a mat down so she could get out.

I got called as an emergency to fix the lights and arrived at 5pm (last week) the guys were finishing the floor by the light of a mobile phone. Couldn't get in  so went back today and am now cutting holes through the tanking to fit extra sockets that had  been asked for as part of the original job.

Builder i do work for has been asked  to correct it all by the damp proofing firm.

Take 'Eastern Europeans' and replace it with 'blacks'.

If it was a bunch of Nigerians doing the work it wouldn't matter it's still **** work.

the EE's have a reputation for poor workmanship purely because they have no idea what they are doing.

Essex whilst I commend your compassion for the human race, I do think that you need to take the rose tinted glasses off and see it for what it is. I am having the unfortunate experience of working with many EE's and to say they haven't a clue is an understatement, now that's not to say all are that way but IME most are. Now are they nice people, well the ones that I can communicate with are very pleasant, but still can't blame them, we have to look at why our construction industry has become a safe haven for these people, is it because a) many of our guys retired from the game when the crash hit all those years ago? b) is it because we don't invest in the correct training programs for the youth to filter through? c) is it our youth are not interested in manual work with the ever increasing technology they can play with? 

d) is it all of the above?

I am not saying some EE carry out terrible work. Just like some English do.  But we do not post threads titled 'good ol' English workmanship' do we?

No, its a fact they were. In  this case, these guys obviously have not got a clue & could not care less about anything, but charged a lot, but they undercut the builder who now is charging to correct this. They came from Croydon to N London ( an expensive and 2 hour plus journey) by train carrying just a few hand tools. As they did not want to come back the next day so they cut even more corners. The past year 45% of our work  has been correcting Eastern Europeans.

Heres another bit of electrics they left live sticking a few inches out the floor by the front door  where a socket was removed.

If it was  Chinese or Black or Indian or British workers i would say so.
