I think labc are all diff or have no idea in different areas. I no the electrician who comes to inspect in the area i live he works for the council, he will not allow anyone to go via labc unless qualified..
It's not upto that or any other spark - whether they feel DIYers are knicking their work - Part P is law and therefore BCO can issue Completion Certificate.

having said that, if they are ment to i&t the job prob would not comply anyway if done by a handyman
No reason why not! To be fair the majority of minor jobs don't require much brain power. Changing an accessory or adding a few sockets, replacing a shower arn't very taxing jobs. A full re-wire or CU change is a different story.

yes limited scope....which scope have you got??
I dont carry out notifiable work so have no need to be registered, most of the sparks round here turn their noses up at the smaller none notifiable work, so who do you want to do it? the little old lady?

Pays for my college courses, so..

Shame most people still dont know about it. been a few radio ads lately about the Corgi changeover. still nothing like this for electrical warning to use part P sparks. if there was, then more people would start asking. so far ive only been asked a few times if i am reg'd, and that has only been for larger jobs (re-wire, DB change etc). add sockets etc in kitchens and other notifiable works and most customer dont have a clue that it need to be notified to anyone
I honestly can say i have always been asked if registered and before i was have lost a lot of work due to not being registered. I think it is just going to take time but eventually hopefully it will be as known as corgi/gas safe

thats what i am refering to, re-wires etc etc, not swapping like for like, all im saying is a handyman doing a rewire the work will prob not comply.

Lets face it Part P as a legislation does not work in our favour.

The only people who can enforce this refuse to do so.

I would report anyone to the LABC if I knew they where doing work which should be notified, but alas the cowboys just sit and laugh at us suckers who pay our dues!

Some of them cant even paint nevermind install a socket. I have all the fun of going through the registration process in the next couple of years...(Nearly finished 2330 L2).

part p only effects the honest people.

most people who are not reg'd will just go ahead with the work and bodge it with no certs. if they are asked, they will probably say yes, do as above, and then disappear to the next 'job'

depending on your knowledge, you may be able to register with elecsa before your qualified

I find building inspectors are asking for certificates on jobs these days when building control is involved so part p must be doing something. They won't sign jobs off unless they see part p cert.

Batty

There has been a few jobs ive done where LABC have wanted part p cert before they would sign off the extension

The assesor who came to me the other day said that things are being put in place, he said all schemes will/should eventually have a number to phone to report anyone doing work when not registered or cant prove competant to be doing the work, or somthing along those lines i was too nervous to take it all in properly, i was to busy just nodding:D

Agree'd I keep a copy of part p with me so i can show customers the regs if they ask me to do something beyond what i can do within the law. Usually pass the lead onto a local spark to follow up.

could possibly work with these cowboys talking money for electrical work but will never stop people doing things in their own homes.

Why does B&Q stock all this gas stuff? Because the Corgi man shops there? I think not...............

btw I know it's not Corgi now :p

Maybe one part P does start to work and people get to know about it, they will do a Corgi and change it to something else.

Weird how B&Q are the same firm as screwfix essentially but SF wont sell gas fittings to people unless they hold registration. Shows all they care about is the money.
