blacklists

and whitelists are you only option I would think,

and choke speeds to stop streaming

althoiugh you could blacklist the common streaming sites too I suppose,

I could give you a few names apart from the obvious i[player ones
there would be millions though :/

What do they want to "overlook" & in what detail?

Remember, could privacy laws apply?
would put it in the t&c id say i know uni's are very hot on it block loads of address only allow 1-2 ip's per user and they even monitor what your doing to the extent that someone in it could be watching ur screen.

best bet would be to do some real research of whats already out there alot of places uses this type of software so there are a lot of tried and testes methods and programs.

thats not an amazing one but its free and you could use it in 20mins from now :D

Storing urls, I can imagine but overlooking I would not think is ok and storing or viewing personal details will open you up to data protection act.

I would recommend

http://www.antamedia.com/hotel-wifi/

for the control software - its got a good following of hotel chains and is reasonable in cost and their support is very good

I would recommend using it in a Virtual Machine preferably on a Mac Pro, this then gives the better option of fall over backups when windows has a problem

It would be best to run the software on Windows 7 as i say in a VM or just on a PC

The PC or MAC needs two GB NIC cards configured for internal and external IPs and then the internal IP needs to be configured in the softwar (wizard) for setting up the WiFi

You will probably need WiFi repeaters to give good signal strength throughout the hotel unless your just enabling a hotspot area for say the lounge

And if the Hotel can get it then they would be best with a fibre link rather tha ADSL or ADSL2+ as they will have better bandwidth and speed

Draytek Routers are very good as above
The Antamedia kit is the one I discussed with you on the `phone ;) It is what I`ve recommended to the hotel - two of the other hotels we deal with use it, and are impressed with the responses.

Wifi repeaters - we`re working on a system of those - part of the coverage area will need to be powerline ethernet fed. We won`t get fibre there for a while - ask Canoey - he`s been there, and knows how remote the place is.

Thank you
