Hi all,

We are in the process of costing out a 2 storey dwelling where the architect has requested intumescent seals on all the  sockets and switches on the stud wall. I have not come across this before. Can anyone help. I cant see anything in the green book relating to this.

Thanks

Steve

it is to do with maintaining the integrity of fire rated walls etc. make a hole then it has to be made good to the original spec. If the Architest is so clever get him to spec what you use....you cannot be wrong then!

Architect from the greek Archi meaning bloke       and      Techt  meaning not knowing and thus frantically looking in books for inspiration whilst at the same time dry reaming his client

loads of manufacturers make retro fit seals or they can be bought built into the back of the box...metal or dry lining.

YESSS stock them

just saying

For retro fitting there's these:

Again, for normal back boxes there's also a "putty" type that comes in a pre-formed sheet like a slab of Blu Tack with the corners cut out...........but it's red! Called "Fireseal". It never goes hard either. You squish it into the back box and round the cables. It's meant to provide air tightness too.

I would make sure that the stud walls constitute a fire barrier first. Many do not.
