£100 fine for middle lane hogging............ok then ill hog the fast lane instead

overtaking on the inside is commonly referred to as undertaking

undertaking happens very often everyday especially friday afternoons coming out of London

ie;  on the M25 and M. The traffic on the motorway is very slow and the inside lane is often moving faster than the traffic on the outside.    The traffic can be moving quite fast sometimes and fairly spaced out with the inside lane still moving faster than the outside lane.  Nobody complains or cares.  So what is the difference in undertaking and at what point does it come objectionable.

I know there is no definition in the Highway Code

sitting in heavy traffic is different to an open clear motorway

if you want to have fun with it, overtake in lane 3, over to lane 1. slow down a little until thy pass. back to lane 3. overtake. repeat.

my record is 5 laps (and about 6 miles) before they shifted to lane 1.

Yes its not actually against the Highway code to undertake ie:- on the left .

I assume this new law is for the guy who sits in the middle lane on a clear motorway .

Can't see it working on the M6 midlands  which has 3 lanes all permanently full ,  they'd be fining hundreds and hundreds every day .

I wish they'd go after the mobile phone users ...with a £1000 fine and a years ban .

Imagine having your family wiped out by some moron who thinks its more important to be  texting or twittering a load of crap to his moronic mates than looking where he,s driving .   X(   :_|

I have a great business idea...........get the government to issue us with a registered video recorder with GPS n Time etc,  and get £50 for each person we catch driving while using a mobile................we would be millionaires  Rodney!!!

How about fining those tw@ts of cyclists that you encounter down country lanes! You know, the ones who, in their finest lycra glance over their shoulder at you then pedal even HARDER and ignore passing place after passing place RATHER than pull over for you! That or TASER the ***** !!!

OnOff - Please Read

A lot of woman think they are only allowed to drive in the middle lane.

A lot of woman also think you must stop at a roundabout then look right, then decide its clear before proceeding.

Undertaking is when you are in the middle lane you go into the inside lane to get past the slower traffic in the middle lane and then pull back out into the middle lane to get past the other cars. Usually done by BMW/Audi drivers.

And what's wrong with BMW/Audi drivers :-(
Some are generally ignorant probably company cars. Had one today X7 type BMW at roundabout just down the road from where I live now this has two lanes, I want to go right but because he thinks he owns the road he is half way between the two lanes and as more traffic is going left I have to wait until he can go so I can pass. Not a good way to start your day.

I think that cyclists who ride on the road when a cycle path has been put in at great cost should be fined....

........ and .... breathe
I never use them   they are a pain in the rear.........only a cyclist would understand  couch potatoes dont.

I hate it when a road has a lovely new coating of smooth as silk tarmac put on it then some gits trowel on some road artex at the side for us cyclists.............why on earth would we want to ride our bikes on that crap surface for?

+2 where's me taser ffs lol

M40 is the worst one for me A43 to Thame

no one uses the inside lane for 70mph

so what do I do in my 3L x type sports jag ??

70 mph in on the inside lane undertake the lot of them

yet to be stopped

did anyone hear Jeremy Vine on about this today........there was a guy on and he said  idont mean to be sexist but its the women drivers then he said i dont mean to be racist but it is the oriental drivers as well

Funny As!

The sad fact is there are loads of bad drivers on the road today, I do roughly 1000 miles per week but have in the past done over 2500 miles per week. Many traffic jams are down to the fact that people still think lane 1 is for trucks only!!

Many tail backs in lane 3 are down to last minute middle lane drivers deciding to go into a lane of averaged speed 70mph at 50 mph.

Then we get the best ones, those who due to weather conditions decide to drive at 40mph in whichever lane they decide.

Tailgators  also get £100 fine
What every one fails to acknowledge is that the offences have always been there, its the fact that now they want to impose on the spot fines.

If no one has been prosecuted under the current system, then why should they be prosecuted under this new system. Also how could they prove it. I can not see them turning out loads of traffic cops to manage a system that just has loop holes written all over it. Any appeal to an on the spot fine would easily be upheld given the past record of enforcement.
