New Van Racking

Who hoo,,

Last night i went and put a deposit down on a 03 Peugeot Expert,,, all being well I'm getting it delivered on Saturday and I then have a week to rack it out before I get it taxed... I'm going to carry on using my fathers Escort van until then

So what I need are some racking ideas!

At the moment it is ply lined and carpeted (thin), but it does not have a bulkhead of any sort except for the 2" lip behind the seats,,, so I have an almost blank canvas.

Bear in mind that I mainly do domestic work; with some light commercial, farms, caravan parks and a tiny amount of industrial.

Obviously there are the normal tools etc to go in the van but I'd also like to get my small combination steps in as well..

So the question is,,,, how to rack it out??  Pictures would be good

get some sterling board and make some shelves to suit what you need

"shelf" from the roof for the ladders. Think "upside down" ladder rack hanging down.

If you are thinking of a full bulkhead, make sure you can still get 3M lengths of trunking/conduit in. If there's not enough length, then a small trap door at the top of the bulkhead so they can poke through into the cab at high level.  Support these alongside the ladders from your inverted ladder rack.

Thats what I did in my Kangoo,,, I had the front of the ladder resting on the cage/frame bulk head and the rear supported by some rope and a piece of wood... I think I'll make something a bit more permanent this time.... that is assuming I get some spare time to do all this

The load length is stated to be 2255mm, so my combi steps will fit without going over the cab,,,, trunking will not though

For me, that's a FAIL for an electricians van.

Unless you want to carry it on the roof in a tube, like plumbers like to do?

FFS even my Subaru Forester that I use as a van can carry 3M lengths inside.

My mate shelved his van out

Then he got loads of the wooden drawer sets from ikea....f cheap. Fitted these tomthenshelves and then put Velcro at the back of each drawer and the other side of the Velcro on the back of the housing. Brilliant, pull drawer ou, get his fittings, push drawer back...it holds on the Velcro and does not fly open when cornering or on country lanes. Will do the same when I gat my nex vehicle....just need to get this one to 250,000 miles.

Wood is expensive and heavy. Can also take a day or 2 to muck around creating it. 

I would save the £100-200 on wood, go to work for 2 days and buy a proper kit for £600. Looks better, lasts longer, less weight so less fuel. 

I had a result and got all mine 2nd hand off ebay for £100 and its Bott ( the best make in my opinion), i could not have bought the wood for that

Not if you have fit a full bulkhead.

PVC conduit ok it bends into the rear light openings at the back.

Any think just over 2mtrs is no go unless angled side door to rear door.

Can you not build a raised area, type of false floor then slide 3m lengths along floor under seats?

Not much space under seats with how there fitted.

I cut a hole at the bottom of my bulkhead so conduit and trunking fits in under the seat. Much better than flapping about over your head

They do look good, but I can't but think that they'll jump off at the first speed bump  pothole

Cant remember when i first posted that but it embarrassed me into tidying it up. Its never been like that since and only was like that as a few jobs had finished and everything got thrown in as we were double yellow lines.

This was later the same day & i have since fitted a few extra brackets and boxes for certain items.



Mistake i made was to construct the rack out of MDF, Dont, its too soft and wont last well. I am having to put extra L brackets all over
