Installation has decent Outside aerial and good clear view to distant transmitter..

:D

It feeds a passive splitter to 3 outlets, all give a lousy to non existent signal.

Connections at the splitter seem, good.

I've yet to check the aerial output direct to a TV, but if that is still *, would one consider a bad connection at the aerial?

has the problem just started? any water got into a cable?

if nothing been changed, could be a corroded connection at the aerial thats finally snapped

also, in the wind, aerials often move around - and will eventually snap the inner core

Would you not to be very lucky not to need amplification to split the signal 3 ways with no booster?
Well, one wouldn't expect it as bad as it is... :_|

I mean it's *..

:(

extension15, this does sound like the signal feed is open and only the earth is connected.

Your area has not gone digital has it by any chance? :_| ;)

Is he signal only bad when 2 or more TV's are on (possibly the same channel) at the same time?

FWIW, radio line of sight is NOT the same a visual line of site.

Ian.

try bypassing the splitter and feeding one tv

if its still bad

its either the connector into splitter or connection at Ae

if its good then its the splitter or set up requiring booster

nothing else it could be

Right on..

Firstly one of the outputs was shorted....

While this improved the signal, it still was poor..

Bypassed the passive splitter, great signal..B-)

Why fit a passive splitter (decent one) in a difficult area (Tx is 50 miles away)..

Anyway, thanks all..

You must have good eyesight!

I said that ;)

:p

This was installed by a Aerial Fitter, by trade..

So why didn't he check it?

It was always giving poor reception (regardless of the fault)?

And I didn't realise myself how much signal loss these (professional) passive splitters actually give..

:|

If it was a good splitter it is 4 db per output .using one of these you can,t go down less than 60 If you do that were you lose the signal and picture
