My jobs would be planned weeks in advance and I would have all the materials to hand, so Dave having a holiday would not be an issue for me.

IF I had an emergency board swap, then I would explain the situation to the client and give them the choice of a single pole board NOW OR a temporary fix and a DP board later...and leave the decision up to them

Just saying

Hi KME,

No problems with your order, which I received today and  I have confirmed by e-mail to you.

I shall process it over Easter, along with 2 other Forum Member orders, for pick up Tuesday and delivery Wednesday.

SBS Dave

Have a good holiday Dave you deserve it. I would say that the service you have provided myself has been second to none.

I AM NOT EMBARRESSED TO ADMIT I WILL BE   "AWAY FROM THE OFFICE"      FROM 21/05/2015 UNTIL 30/05/2015,

which should give sufficient notice to potential customers.

I am sorry if this possibly causes some degree of inconvenience to some people, but my business is set up in a similar way to that of many Forum Members.

  • On my SBS Trade Sales side of my business, I am essentially a one-man-band.
  • My Office is a spare bedroom in my home.
  • My Stockroom/Workshop is in my garage.
  • I operate mainly in the Domestic/small Commercial sector.
  • I don't advertise, other than on the Forum.
  • When I am away from the Office, for whatever reason, it is almost impossible to get someone, with sufficient knowledge and experience, to cover for me.
  • HOWEVER, when I am at home, I can and do give out-of-hours coverage.
AND I ONLY SELL TO THE TRADE.

Despite being away for part of April, I have had a cracking month.    MAYBE I SHOULD GO AWAY MORE OFTEN!!!

SBS Dave

I NEED TO REDUCE MY STOCK OF SMALL PLASTIC BOXES.

My first thought was , " I will sell them off cheap, but I don't want to give them away"

My second thought was, "WHY THE HELL NOT??,  I WILL GIVE THEM AWAY!!"

So, here's the deal;.

I have some IP65 4-mod and 6-mod IP65 boxes in stock, plus a few other miscellaneous sizes, so YOU BUY what you want in the box,

and I GIVE you the box   FREE OF CHARGE.

Standard RCBOs are still £10.00 + VAT

Main Switches are still £6.00 + VAT

YOU JUST PAY FOR THE BITS INSIDE. and with my 2 smaller Main Switches, the PRICE IS LESS THAN THE MAIN SWITCH!

I know a lot of you are fans of the Wylex REC2S switch, so I am offering them at just £8.00 + VAT. If you know of any cheaper prices (not e-bay FFS), let me know and I will sell them at a quid cheaper than the lowest price.

There is postage to consider, but if you order these deals with another of my DBs, etc, there will be no additional postage.

Cracking deal, i used a REC2S for the first time this week and my local independent charged me £16

I am doing a job at the moment which will need a new board soon, i was thinking about 30 ways, single phase and was going to fit a 3 phase board linked out. Is there anything you can do, maybe a double stacked board and to meet Amnd 3 ?

Hi Slips,

Looks as though I'm almost giving away the REC2Ss as well !!!

I don't have any AMD3-compliant boards at the moment, but I am working on it.

Even then, I would have to stack 2 x 16-mod boards to achieve your spec.

In the meantime, you could consider stacking 2 x Havells 16-way type A boards.

If that was a solution and you were thinking of using my RCBOs, I could get them from Electricfix and charge you my cost (£57.11 + VAT each), unless you can get them cheaper from Havells, via the Forum.

We could then work out a way of linking the boards together. Let me know what you think.

ON THE SUBJECT OF AMD3 BOARDS, CAN ANYBODY GIVE ME PRICES OF THE VARIOUS BRANDS BEING OFFERED??

There seems to be very little info. on AMD3 boards, other than official announcements and photos from the manufacturers, but I can't find any pricing.

IF YOU CAN HELP ME, I WOULD APPRECIATE IT.

JUST TO REMIND YOU I AM OUT OF THE OFFICE FROM FRIDAY 22 May, SO VERY LAST DAY TO PROCESS AN ORDER WOULD BE THURSDAY 21st.

Back for business on Saturday 30th May.

I shifted a few small boxes on my FOC box deal, thank you and also a few REC2Ss. Still have stock left if you are interested.

Smart Home Panel.png

The attached photo shows a job in progress from one of my TEF customers. It is a smart home panel and I have to admit he is smarter than me.  WTF is all that stuff!!

From my point of view, I am happy for my Compacts to be featured in this panel, as Standard RCBOs wouldn't fit anyway.

Hopefully, I should get more photos when the job is complete.

Went to the ELEX Show yesterday, to check out potential AMD3 board Suppliers and I need to choose a suitable model.

If you have any views, please let me know.

I got into a debate with Wylex about their 32mm Tails gland. It accommodates L & N , but when I asked about the earth, they said it doesn't need to be included.

When I said it did, they indirectly told me I was talking through my grommet.

To prove my point, I asked the IET guy with the pony tail, his opinion and he wasn't sure, so we looked it up in the Regs (page 125 521.5.1).

He concluded I was correct, ( "and the appropriate protective conductor"). I then spoke to Tony Cable and another guy at NICEIC, who weren't sure either and they said they would also check it out with IET.

Another Company (Wiska?) had a 40mm gland kit with 3 holes to accommodate the earth, but they weren't certain if it was needed either, but thought it probably was.

I didn't get back to Wylex, so I don't know whether the guy's grommet was 32mm or 40mm..

Therevwas an interesting discussion on REC2 ....the word on the street is

If it is fitted by the DNO then it is outside the regs as it is fitted for their use and is their properjty

If WE fit one then it is for the Customers use so it is covered by the regs

I always thought that everything AFTER the meter INCLUDINGbthe tails was the punters problem. Obviously wrong....luckily EVERY job I have ever done OR every hob that I will,do in the future has/will have the REC2 fitted by the DNO!.....well,until my large supply of them expires

I had same discussion about cable flands with the Wisk men AND got the same result.

It is a very nice looking tails gland BUT you would not eant it on your bellend as a wart...it is fricking huge. And probably F expensive as well
