Seals and crimpers

Am after a set of seals and crimpers so that I can 'make safe' after removing main fuses etc. Of course, only done in the interests of safe isolation in the absence of the DNO blah blah blah. Anyone any recommendations as to which seals / crimpers? And please, don't start the boring discussion about right or wrong to cut seals, been done a trillion times.

rarely have a need to seal anything, but i have some thin steel wire (similar to that used), and a 1.5mm uninsulated thru crimp

If I was asked [which I am not] I would think that you might have a problem with the crimping tool. Any old cable squasher will work but, to make it look professional you will struggle [ I would think, if I was asked, which I am not ] unless you knew somebody who was a Tool Maker or a very good CNC Machinist. Obviously my opinions and not those of the mass populus. Also for legal reasons feel free to insert the word 'allegedly' wherever you feel fit.......... :innocent

Lol I reckon that it is wrong to try and re-seal imitating the DNO. However, I defy anyone to tell me I have done the wrong thing by re-sealing myself.

No, tend to keep it seperate but not because of any Legal issues.

We sell a fair few of all these items, however the SP Wales or Universal Meters site would give a very good indication of our stuff.

I am sure no responsible electrician would ever suggest on a public forum that opening and sealing a DNO cut out was a legally allowable act. However there are numerous uses within industry for private metering and recording of power usage. These applications may often need to be sealed to prevent tampering by unauthorised person. Also these type of seals may be used for other non electrical meter applications. As such there are, as Apache points out, a lot of suppliers where non-DNO approved seals can be purchased. It is quite true to say that some, not all, of these seals and wire could fit through a standard DNO's cut-out for anyone to make an installation more secure and safe whilst awaiting the DNO to come and correctly seal a cut out.

I have some wire and plated feurriles, bought from ebay.

I didn't bother with the crimpers as the crimp quite nicely in the "red" part of my ratchet crimpers.

Oh, and I only bought them because a customer wanted something that would indicate if their private equipment had been tampered with.

I brought a set of the sealing pliers but have lost part of it so nowadays just use my side cutters to crimp flag ferrules this is only for landlords I do work for though because I would never dream of interfering with DNO property.

I allways seal 'my' meter tail blocks. I used to fit a sticker that said 'sealed for your safety' on it. But after a while the glue failed, so I started with the wire seals. I have an old style 'W' lead crimper for the old lead tabs and wiggly wire. I am presently using an 'adapted' RG58 thin ethernet crimper that seems to do the job pro-tem........... :innocent

Dno crimpers all have serial numbers,which are registered to the meter bloke . This is how we find out who messed up when something melts.

You could of course just be wanting a set of seals to go on any RECs you might have fitted! They could I'm sure even be advertised as such!

The EDF fella who came out to me the other day confirmed his crimpers & seals were registered to him. Think he was "Number 7". Kept his sealing wires in a Steradent container!

The company I work for fits RECs for the local dno, the sealing pliers are definitely registered to the man.

I've had the DNO called out for emergencies and the bloke just sealed them with snips!! no numbers or anything then he left me a few wires & seals just in case....
