My original point was that the OP would be unlikely to find someone to sign off his work as he doesn't have much of a clue what he is doing. You obviously do and I'm sure there are some here who would happily sign off your work and there are other DIYers who are also equally competent. The fact that the OP got the hump is unfortunate, but he doesn't seem to understand what he is doing and why he is still not competent no matter what he thinks.

I was not angling for a discussion on the merits of DIY vs pro installations as we could go on forever (which I'm sure we will)!

Folks this should not degenerate into the pros and cons of DIY electrics. There had been some good advice , some good banter and other observations around the safety element of this work and I appreciate all of that.

What I Do not appreciate is some of the rude and condescending posts from one member here - for the record I did not take the hump and have tried to respond politely to those comments recognising my newness to the forum and trying to provide a degree of respect to him/her in how I answers, he/she ought to do likewise.

As a newcomer looking for some input from those who know better , either as professionals or experienced diyers that one person has made the forum less welcoming than i would have hoped. I know in most forums there are the odd people who seem to miss the point about using their experience to guide and advise and instead use it to belittle those who have less knowledge.

I've put said member on ignore ..that is an end to it and I shall continue to post and seek advice from those who are willing to provide it.

Thank you again to those who have provided their views. Its been interesting. I suspect the thread ought to be closed now unless there is more that can be said around the specifics of the work that I plan to do.

Do you need a 'good electrician' to fit a few downlights?

Get over yourselves. Should I have to ring a builder to put up a shelf? Ring a plumber to install a new dishwasher? Get a gardener in to mow my lawn?

Changing a light fitting or socket faceplate is easy. As is adding a few downlights etc.?
It is comments like this that really go to prove what little respect the domestic electrician has from people these days. Likening a sparky to a gardener or a handyman.

Ridiculous.

I would agree, at 80+ replies I think your initial point has been covered and it is now drifting off topic. Please start a new thread if you have further questions and I am sure you will get some helpful replies. Thank you.
