Two DNO supply cables in the same head?

Erm, yes. It's a multistranded cable, surely you've seen these, 4mm and over is multistranded, as are conduit wiring cables. The exact cable type is a concentric to the left, and a split concentric to the right.
Yep, concur.

I have not read the whole thread but that cable on the left is called a CONSAC...

Would anyone know what that means then? :coat

(in teacher mode now, sorry...)

Close Lurch, very close

CONSAC- Concentric solid aluminium core

you gotta be leccy board to know that one:D

hi all,

i would like to add something to the debate that has not been covered...

looking at the pictures the supply in this property is a TN-C-S as it is supplied on the left wire (i assume;\) which as discussed is a CONSAC (line up the middle, combined neutral earth surrounding it and taped up where it spins off to the service head unit)

Now the right wire is a split concentric (line neutral and earth) which i again assume is a "looped service" to next door ( very common)

here is my point. if i went and did a job and certificate next door i would record it as a TN-S when in fact it is a TN-C-S! my only clue that something could be amiss would be my PSSC and PEFC readings as they would be very similar readings... :coat hopefully/probably

If it is a looped feed to next door exiting on the right cable and you did a test next door and marked it as TN-S, would you not realise there was something amiss when you got no reading on PEFC as the earth terminal on the head is connected to nothing (assuming next door has the same head wired in the same fashion as the one in the pic here)?

and another thing.....

while i am in quiz mode here is another couple of questionsheadbang

1 before it was known as a TN-C-S system it was and is still known as a PME. What was another alternative name that has since fell into dis-use?

2 what is the alternative old name for it in eire?

yes lurch it looks that way but if you look at the 2nd pic you can see the pme link on the earth bar. the edge is just in shot so that outgoing earth is connected to the incoming pen conductor- so next door everything will be good! if you know what i mean!

I was wondering if that was what it was. Had my nose against the monitor and everything!
