Alright chaps.

Having been on the 2010 price protection plan with British Gas. My bills have just sneaked up a bit. Well, quite a bit. Which I knew would happen but it still doesn't help. Anyway, now on their standard tarriff and wondering where to go from here. What would you guys advise. Sticking with BG and going on a different plan like their web plans. Or, change supplier. I've heard good things about EOn. Anybody had good/bad experiences. I've looked at uswitch and they say Npower, then EOn will be cheapest. Not going with NPower, had problems with them in a past life. Thanks for any info.

Members of this forum will only be able to give their own personal views on this topic, you would be better asking on forums that discuss this in far more detail.

One that comes to mind is moneysavingexpert.com, I remember that British Gas was giving new customers really good rates for gas and electric and are now "I think" the most expensive so its always a gamble when you switch.

Yeah, I understand that pal. Thats kind of what I'm after. There are some knowledgeable people on here and I believe there could be some useful opinions.

IMHO these price comparison websites are about as helpful as sticking your head out of the window to see what the weathers going to be like next month.

Unfortunately cuz you are entering into a contract for the provision of a service just taking a snap-shot of what the price comparison is today may or may not help you to purchase the best deal for what that provider will charge in February!!!!

Its not like you are buying a product with a one-off purchase where you just need the best deal you can get at the time you are ready to purchase.

Gas and electric bills are not an easy straight forward calculation (like 'X' units = 'X'*'Y' pounds) Much like mobile phone tariffs.. They are all VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY difficult to get a true like for like comparisons of price and what you are getting for your payments! :(

So at the end of the day it basically comes down to who looks reasonable when you are ready to switch........

Do you like the business name.

Are you bothered about UK / Overseas call centers.

Does the M.D. drive a nice car.

Which one would Paul the Octopus have selected if he was still with us (RIP Paul).

Are the tunes nice that they play on the phone, while you are waiting in the telephone queue for your call (which is important to them) to be answered!.

Are they giving away

I have (in the past 3-6 Months) signed a great contract with BG. Before that, I was with SWALEC.

SWALEC, said they could beat BG on the Gas but not the electric. :_|

I did receive two e-mails from BG telling me that the cost is going up. :(

Will revise it soon.

PS. That is a "Dual Fuel" tariff.

I always said I would stay with same supplier but unfortunately was conned into changing to southern electric by a salesman at the door. We were with them for a while and they were a bit cheaper than eastern electric but then there prices started to creep up anyway we did go back to EDF and have been with them for a few years it did take about 18 months to get the bills sorted out but I really can not be doing with the hassle anymore. The thing is they may offer you a good deal for a while but eventually they will get it back.

I went on a price comparison site and found that my current supplier [british Gas] were the cheapest. Forget the exact saving but we saved a couple of hundred pounds a year by clicking a few times on the website and signing up to paperless bills.

That was crazy
