headbangheadbangI assume Badger & Scarper have been at it again........

Anyone read 524 Cross Sectional Areas Of Conductors in Cables?

Page 105 (for those who's index pages have fell out!!!!) ;)

Especially 524.2:-

Anyway..

The bottom line as far as I have always understood it is....

Single phase circuits line CSA must equal neutral CSA

and vice versa!!!!!

After reading this additional gem I am more convinced of my earlier points...

Forget whats there at the moment..

Discuss the customers requirements

and redesigned and calculate what is needed...

we already know bigger CSA's are needed so why waste more time..

get the spec & do the calcs..

then find if you also need a bigger supply.

In the words of the churchill car insurance ad...

Oh YesYesYes!

Obvious suggestion:

It's a 4 core SWA. So why not use two cores for L and 2 cores for N, and just the SWA for CPC?

That will reduce volt drop a bit and satisfy Special Location's concerns.

but what if the armour is not adequate for an earth?

^ Andy, noty unusual for the armour to be inadequate really.

This does need a back to 1st principles job to get it done as cheap as possible I think else it will be bodge after bodge and it will end up being expensive.

Well IMHO.

How old is the original installation? It sounds to me like the original was all wired for fewer, lower rating lamps, then over the years bigger or more lamps have been added without any consideration for the supply cables?

Doc H.

Thats what I was thinking Doc, sounds like they have just installed more and bigger, without thinking about it.
