can't remember who makes them, they are a bit rare.

I've read about these before, but have never been able to locate one. Schneider market an isolator for vertical or horizontal mounting, but it's just a standard 2g vertical isolator they tell you can be turned on its side.

A quick search shows that Hagar do actually make a horizontal cooker isolator, but it's not sold in the UK. The sites I've found it on were all Australian.

think I might have used a grid switch last time I needed one

Who fitted that cooker isolation switch sideways ?

There are landscape versions available
Me! Why? Is it illegal? I couldn't find a 'landscape' one anywhere, and even ProDave has never seen one. I thought someone might say something about that. I think people can read ON OFF 'sideways'! and its an improvement over a socket behind the hob.
Any suggestions on a solution for moving/adding sockets that makes any real difference, without wrecking the tiles?

It's not an improvement aesthetics wise, and certainly not an improvement as to the location of the switch regarding ingress or heat.

it's not illegal, just looks odd. It's also perfectly legal to install a doube socket upside down, with modern moulded on plugs, and old sockets too close to the floor, it can make life a lot easier.

No, not aesthetically, but that is of minor importance. It's still an improvement over having a socket and a trailing lead behind the hob, which is what the tester had an issue with.
Seriously, what would you do? If the switch were relocated, where could it go? (without damaging the tiling) And If it could be moved it would still leave a 2G size hole in the middle of the tile. What would I do about that? I don't have any more tiles.

You could look at fitting a 1G back box and isolation switch
I considered that, but it leaves a half a back box sized hole in the tile. Or two singles, but two singles are not the same size as one double either are they? So this seemed to be the best solution. 🤷🏻‍♂️

It's certainly the easiest solution, and I'm not a fan of trying to get 6mm cable into a single plate isolator.

What I have done on one job, is relocate the isolator into a cupboard next to the cooker, but you still end up with a blank plate on the wall. The time to deal with this properly is when you next refurbish the kitchen. Until then, your solution is good enough.
