    Kitchen work

my regs are in van too but i was always under impression walls and ceilings were included in the <50mm rule. Cables in notchs on the joists would need to be RCD protected, but that would also mean all cables simply laying above a ceiling, or not through holes in the joists and strung tight...

    Kitchen work

i once ran some cables along a floor chase when no other way. I ran them through some flexi conduit for a bit of protection, then a builder cemented them in. I would maybe chase out the floor with a stone cutter, quite deep, then maybe try and put a small drain pipe to pull cables through or...

    DIY PME

I used to work for BG as a spark for nearly two years, made a good friend there, who like me was fully qualified before joining. Alot of there electricians were trained through there company and they seemed to be getting more and more electricians this way, prefering it to employing experianced...

    mixing brands of alarm parts

Doe anyone know of any problems when mixing different brands of security alarm parts, namely a cooper panel with a texecom bell box and PIR's? thanks

Mixing different manufacurers MCB's in a board

I've had an arguement about this before! Although i generally try to keep all parts same brand i wouldnt specially buy another brand or leave a job to go get another brand, knowing ive got identical different brand parts in van. As steptoe said, if they fit properly whats the problem

    Emergency services scam

Definately a good rule! I'm getting really wound up at the moment with all the cold calls im getting. Had one yesterday and a couple of weeks ago from company claiming to be making a DVD for local building control wanting me to pay to be in a contractor list.

    Emergency services scam

ive just of the phone from the 'Police Talk Initiative' team. Got a fantastic deal on a double page spread!... Only joking! They have just rang me though, much to my anger. Had dealings with these people last year and thought I'd heard the end of it. These people make me sick! Actually none of...

Live cable detector - Any suggestions?

I used to have one of those fluke lights, perfect pocket tool, really good size torch. Unfortunately its long lost now and im too tight to buy another. Although not designed for it mine would pick up cables buried in walls alot better than my bosch cable/wood detector i have. As said, they not...

    25mm tails

yeah meant insulated and sheathed. So you could heatshrink over the crimp but then would you need to further insulate if extended outside the CU?

Does anyone know of best deals atm for a 10 way cu?

i fitted one of those cheaper MK boards, the hinge for the cover broke off. The whole cover is really cheapo plastic, not like usual Logic boards. Apart from that there exactly the same arn't they? same rcd's/mcb's? Is a good price for MK

    25mm tails

I have no problem with jointing bonding cable, but for some reason have that same mentality- would rather replace it. I do have situations sometimes where i have to swap which side the main switch is in a new CU so old tails reach. what do you use to crimp 16 or 25mm tails, uninsulated crimps...

2 premises one consumer unit and meter?

If there both tenants would the landlord not foot the bill? Are the circuits shared aswell? If not and the other tenant refuse to pay for CU then you could just put upstairs circuits into a new board, leaving downstairs in old board. Not ideal though

    Pir

Thats generally what i try to do, once works complete invoice then send cert on when paid. Bit of an incentive, although a lot of people couldnt really give a toss if they have a certificate or not. Unfortunately i didnt do these when i did some work for a builder last November time. Gave him...

    EIC Certificate

    Thats kinda whats been said...

    EIC Certificate

You can cert the flat! philbas what cert do you issue on a CU change? You'd be issuing a cert for the work you did only, the connection of a new supply, but all circuits affected by this would have to be included on the cert. As said early your altering everything 'downstream', its a major...

    Emergency lighting testing

Ive got some emergency lighting testing to do as parts of periodics on some carehomes too, next month. I was planning on checking battery times, adaquacy of fittings etc but didnt really think a lux meter neccesary. I would be interested to know what others think though ---------- Post...

    EIC Certificate

if the shop is on a seperate meter then treat it as 2 seperate installations. Your only working on the top flat so only cert that. If you did work at a flat in a block with 20 meters in a cupboard youy wouldnt certify all 19 other flats because the one youve worked in shares the same supply...

    EIC Certificate

I would defo issue a cert for this, probably an EIC. Your not signing off some elses work, you're only signing off your work which would be outlined on the test cert. Its the same as a CU change in theory. Your not signing off some elses work when you do an EIC for board change onto existing...

    Cheap Lamps!! @ wickes

might have to get down to LIDL or homebase then. Got visual inspection and re-lamping of 12 carehomes in the next month, would be great for my profit margins to get 500 or so bulbs for 10p
