I'm being asked to change two cash meters to card type at a house divided into two flats, which I wired 100 years ago.

Landlord does not want to supply the cards and sell them on .

What are the options with contractor fitted meters ? What are the cards that can be re-charged ?  How do they work ?

Are there cards that can be  recharged at a PayPoint   shop ?

Sidey    Megger Mark does'nt show card swipe meters but I'll ask anyway.

Murdock    Theres one DNO meter then two coin meters at the moment.   Landlord doesn't want to start messing with supplying cards , he's asking if there is a card that the tenant  has to recharge at an shop or outlet without bothering him .

I've looked at all the write ups but they assume I am familiar with the card system .

All I know is cards for an Eon or npower meter are avaliable in local shops .

there are no meters like that for private use. only option to get it that way is to get DNO to fit 2 prepayment meters instead. if he does fit 2x private meters and doesnt collect payment, then he isnt going to have anything to pay the invoice from the supplier of the main meter...

OOohh   good point  Andy .   I missed that . :C ....yes as you say ...that meter needs to go and replaced with two of their own swipe card jobbies.      Must be an age thing ...naw can't be that ! :innocent

I'll have to go to site as I'm not sure there is room to mount the meters at a suitable height

The possible problem with that is that there is only a single supply to the property and one address, this means only one Npan number for metering? What's his problem with coin meters?

The only way I can see the DNO providing two meters is if they split the supply themselves thus making the split they're responsibility?

Well thats the DNOs problem Sharpie .... although I see your point .

Landlord , who is my cousin, wants shut of collecting the cash I think , plus I believe the tenant pays a high price for leckie with a cash meter .  Is it a better deal with a swipe card ?

Sharpie ...can't they just create  Npan numbers for each flat  ?

The ONLY answer is for your cousin to call the supplier/DNO and see how much they would charge to remove the single meter and replace with 2 meters.....

I think its Mpan - Meter Administration Point Number.

When a supply is installed they issue Mpan number which you then give to your energy supplier/provider, without it you will not get a connection.

Just thinking on that Mpan issue. I'm pretty sure they may be able to issue a separate number for each flat. Afterall a block of flats has only one supply but may have several flats within? I'd call the energy supplier.

Why doesn't landlord increase the rent and include electricity, or bill it retrospectively? If he doesn't want hassle with cards or coins

Hi all

The DNO will only issue one MPAN [it stands for "meter point adminsitration number] They do this when you first arrange to have a supply put in. You then have to supply details of the MPAN to the supplier, who will then check with the DNO first, before he fits his meter and energises it. So, one supply = one MPAN

So, the ONLY way you can have separate meters for each flat, administered to by a "supplier" and not the landlord [and do not forget each consumer could choose his own supplier himself], would be to have the DNO install multiple supplies, each with their own MPAN.

Hate to think of the cost.....

john..

Based on some of the tenants he's had there  they would stay 3 months then do a runner before paying for leckie Patch .   He's also had the coin boxes smashed open before tenant dissapears.

Landlord sells the cards to tenants and he reckons some will be phoning at midnight for a card .

Not sure who he has in there now .......... last tenant was no problem whatsoever , a girl about 26  .  Unfortunatley  as she and her sister crossed the main road by me , they were moan down by a car that crossed the lights at 60MPH .......instead of braking he just blew the horn , she was killed ..her sister survived but lost the baby she was carrying .

The son of the rich man in his fast car is serving 7 yrs in The Green .  Bastard.
