Electric Wok Hob

I'm going to see a client tomorrow who has a Chinese take away.... They want to replace the existing 2 or 3 ringed gas wok hob for an electric version,, its apparently 18kW

From what I remember they only have a 100A 1ph supply so would they need DNO authority to connect this load?

BTW I haven't seen this "new" hob yet and TBH I'm thinking of steering them towards gas

You are better off pointing towards gas bud, its alot easier to control the heat at various times during cooking compared to electric.

I had an idea that there was a limit

Gas is more controllable for cooking on a hob.

The thermal mass is less, so it heats up & cools down quicker.

So gas is more instant.

Plus there is the connection thing.

Not sure about the value, but 10kW sounds about right.

It ended up that they wanted a double fryer (2 x 9kW)... I talked them into sticking with gas
