After 42 years of service, they had to be replaced.

I’m now walking like Herman Munster.

Just get the old ones resoled.

Although it will probably cost as much as buying a new pair.

42 years!!  I'm lucky if I can get a pair of boots to last me a year.

If the new pair last as long as the old I’ll be 104 and even more grumpy.

In the battle to break them in my feet are loosing.

At my last "boot change" I gave up on leather walking boots and bought synthetic onces instead. What a revalation to have boots that don't need breaking in, and to end a day on the mountains with dry feet.

I bouht a pair of KSBs (Karrimor super boots) when I was about 15 years old. They lasted about 25 years before getting thrown out cos they stank of peat. I've never bought leather boots since.

How did you manage to get them to last 42 years @Tony S?! Mine last a year to 18 months, but they are worn a lot!

I have an aversion to holes full of mud.

I’d be doing well if I got 6 or 7 months out of foundry boots. The usual problems were either the uppers disintegrating due to acid or the soles melting on hot iron.

There’s a Doc Shop in Nottingham. Once I’m able to walk in the new pair I’ll see what they can do with the old. Should be a challenge for them  ray
