Hi all,

I have recently passed my 17th edition regs and a level 3 diploma in electrical installation. I'm currently unemployed but a friend of a friend asked me to rewire his garage.

Upon visual inspection the garage is currently being supplied off of the kitchen ring using a 13A plug and flex!! So inadequate and needs replacement.

Need to run a new cable from CU to outside of house then run either cable in conduit or SWA to new garage CU. After that customer wants 7 sockets and 4 battens with 2 way switching all in pvc conduit.

Is there anyone out there that could give me a rough guide on labour costs please.

Thanks for your time

Lee

It is practically impossible for anyone else to say as we haven't seen the job in hand. The easiest way to approach it for the labour is to estimate how long it will take you. Add a little time for fiddly bits that take longer than expected and / or waiting for things like materials turning up. then multiply it by how much you are happy with earning per day.

All I can tell you is don't work for nothing.whats your hourly rate?whats your materials markup?whats your cost of sale? What's your net profit expressed as a percentage of turnover expected to be? The list goes on.if you can't answer these questions go and do a business admin coarse.this is why bankers are rich and sparkles are not.good luck my son.

What is,?

That the onus to comply with the requirements of building control are with the person ordering the work,?

I'm not sure you understand the statutory requirements of being a householder tbh.

The same as making anyone working on your property aware of any asbestos that may be present.

imo would be a bit cheeky to carry out the work without letting the customer know.

Surely any customer would research such facta and employ the services of a tradesman that was able to meet their requirements, the internet is a wonders thing nowadays, dull of lots of facts, (and non facts)

And, anyone unable to register the work is very unlikely to make the householder aware of their legal requirements, but following the general rule of thumb of 3 quotes, you'd think one of them would be able to point out that they will be notifying the work to BC

It still doesn't negate the fact that notifying is actually the duty of the person ordering the work, not the tradesman.
