Oven went pop on Christmas Day (typical). Gone to try and fix it today…the plug look likes basically been on fire behind the oven (see pics).

Should this have popped a fuse somewhere before it got to this stage? I live in a new build house so this whole setup is only 2 years old.

Thanks for any assistance/advice.

Would have been better hard wired into a connection plate on the wall I'm not a fan of ovens on plugs tbh better to be hard wired like immersion heaters
I’ve been trying to work out what the building regulations state. It seems anything over 3kw should be hardwired, both of the ovens are over 3kw! I’m going to get an electrician to tell me if it’s even compliant or not. Worried me a little bit, shouldn’t be going on fire and melting should it!?

Or just the fuse itself getting hot (a fuse is a bit of resistance wire)

What is the other plug in that double socket for? Is that double socket behind the oven?

I am sure I don't need to say it, but I will, that socket also needs replacing.

App 15 advice is not installing cooking appliances >2kW on ring finals.

Have you not got a cooker outlet ?

So why is this being ignored by the manufacturers or is it too convenient for the manufacturers to put a plug on an oven running close to the limit
Although there are a lot of "electricians" who are just as bad and overlook BS 7671 App 15 when installing kitchen circuits

There is a lot of poor kitchen power installation design these days so I would not be surprised if he didn't

I will. Always run a 6mm cooker feed into the kitchen for oven and a separate 6mm or 10mm feed for a hob even if it is down rated to a lower rcbo or mcb setup in the board old school way of doing things

Rather than old school may be it is the correct way of doing it as my old business partner used to say "what can do a lot can do a little but what can do a little can't do a lot" and it is a statement that always holds true in many aspects of life
When it comes to ovens on 13A sockets it could be the that old school guy's remember all the issues of the immersion heaters on sockets, back in the day it was often one of those discussions that was had at the wholesalers counter with other sparks, and that was when the quality of accessories was considered much better than what we have today

These days it all seems to come down to cost a few pennies saved now can cost many pounds later or severely limit the choice of appliances at replacement time but by then the original installer will be long since gone

Agree 100%

Not old school. It’s the thorough and proper way of proving for now and the future

Yeah so there is an isolation switch on the wall too…

That switch kills the power to that double socket behind the oven (the one with the burn marks on it).

That isolated red wall switch is on its own fuse on my main fuse box labelled “cooker” so it looks fine right up to the red switch but then from there to the oven is the issue where it seems like it should just be cable going into my oven but some genius has made a cable for it instead (it’s not a moulded plug it’s just a piece of wire with a plug put on the end). The oven booklet states that it doesn’t come with a wire or plug (probably cause it’s not supposed to use one). I’ve emailed the company I bought the house from but they are absolutely shocking in terms of their customer service so I’m not expecting much off them. I’ll get an electrician to come out in the new year and sort it!
