been to look at a property that has been bought and the survey highlighted the electrics are dated. visually all looks ok with both bonds to gas and water already, just an old rewireable fuse box.

this is the incoming head and originally thought there might be a fused neutral,

Not too good a picture, but I would be more concerned by the iffy looking E clamp, unless that's how they do it up your end................. :coat

So you still removed it yourself, sealed or not?
wasnt expecting it to come off to be honest, took photo and replaced pretty sharpish..

its still illegal to touch DNO equipment.

what do you think is the problem BTW?

I cant even see the bit you are responsible for in the pix, so I couldnt comment.

It's difficult from the limited pic but yes it's poor isn't it... What's the red neutral doing?? This also has a core bent back on itself and it's obviously red that someone has used... Have you a pic of everything that was connected?

if it was'nt sealed or even fixed, broken like you said, then the dno should phoned as that cover could easily be knocked off leaving exposed live conductors, i think they would come out quickly and determine what needs to be done.

First fix that RED cable going into the neutral block. What is it and where does it go?

Once you have replaced that with a black or blue, call the DNO and tell them their cut out is broken and they will come round and fix it.

The only reason I say change the red cable now, is to get it done while there is no seal and you have access to the terminal. Also the DNO might rightly get uppity when they see it and refuse to re connect a red to neutral.

My Mother had to have her supply head changed a couple

of years ago because the meter had to be changed and the

DNO stated that the meter could NOT be changed without

a change of supply head. The argument being, upon a prompt

from me, was that the cut out could not be withdrawn without

opening up the enclosure and removing the fuse meant working

live.

The new cut-out has a fuseholder with sealed fuse complete

with label and the enclosure can be left closed up after fuse

removal, with no exposure of live parts.

I still have the old cut-out. The guys gave it to me as a keepsake.

Admin; I have bought a new digicam and I need to

load the software on my PC at home.

Give me a little time and I will.

the dno will be contacted straight away about refixing/replacing cover, its the fuse holder i wasnt sure about.

the "red" neutral if i remember rightly was to the time clock, maybe they previously had storage heaters. i was only there for bout 10 mins for a quick look around.
